Destiny 2: The Witch Queen has been officially revealed by Bungie. The expansion will be released on February 22nd, 2022 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox X|S, and PC. Unfortunately for Bungie most of the content leaked earlier via the Australian PlayStation Store.
“We want to push the limit of quality you can expect in an action MMO,” said Bungie, before announcing that the game has gained over 20 million new players since Bungie left Activision. Some big news first, cross-play goes live today!
On to the trailer which shows a forest world with the Witch Queen, Savathûn, discussing the nature of truth. She’s controller an entire swarm of evil Ghosts that resurrect new Hive enemies.
The new play area is Savathûn’s Throne world, “an uncharted land of secrets of lies”, with a large castle, a swampy forest and a massive Pyramid ship. Savathûn is using light powers used against the Guardians and has created her own Hive Guardians. The campaign will include a new Legendary mode with restricted spawning and more difficult enemies.
The new Glaive weapon was also revealed as part of the new weapon crafting mechanic. “Weapon crafting gives you ultimate control over the guns,” say Bungie. The Glaive allows you to perform powerful melee combos, fire projectiles, and deploy a powerful energy shield. There will be new and legacy weapons available later in the year which can be crafted.

They also announced, Destiny 2: The Final Shape, the expansion that will follow Lightfall, which in turns follows The Witch Queen. The Light & Darkness story will conclude say Bungie, but the game will continue.
In Year 5 all Light subclasses will receive Aspects and Fragments similar to how Stasis works now. The Void subclasses update will go live with Witch Queen.
The Season of The Lost goes live today and is based in The Dreaming City and The Shattered Realm and the trailer shows a certain character who recently vanished: Osiris is back! What is the sneaky chap up to? The new gizmo for this season is the Pathfinders Compass which opens paths in the Ascendant Plane.
Trials of Osiris is getting anti-cheat software and, at last, matchmaking. How you earn weapons is also changing for Trials but the Flawless chest will be the only place where you can get Adept weapons.
There will be a Bungie 30th Anniversary celebration with a new six player event. There’s also some purchasable DLC pack which includes a dungeon with Gjallarhorn as a reward. The Bungie 30th Anniversary Pack includes the “Pirate themed” dungeon, a Thorn inspired armour set, Bungie themed ornaments and cosmetics, and the Claymore Sword from Myth.
The Collectors Edition includes a Hive Ghost statue which lights up, and “It may contain some puzzles.” The Deluxe Edition of Destiny 2: The Witch Queen includes two new dungeons, and there’s a remastered Raid from Destiny 1 also out next year. “There will a new Dungeon or Raid every 3 months in Destiny 2 staring in December,” say Bungie.
