Titanfall removed from sale but servers will stay online

Titanfall, which was released in 2014, has been removed from sale today, Respawn has confirmed. In addition, Titanfall will be removed from subscription services on March 1st 2022 which is under what would have been the game’s 8th anniversary. However, even though the game is being removed from sale it will not become unplayable for those who own it. Respawn has stated that the servers for the original Titanfall will remain online for those who still jump in and play the game. Respawn also alludes to a new game in the franchise, possibly Titanfall 3. The full statement can be read below.

“Pilots. Titanfall is part of our DNA at Respawn. It’s a game that showcased the ambitions of the studio when it was first released more than 7 years ago and it continues to be a beacon of innovation that we strive for in all our games. We’ve made the decision to discontinue new sales of the original Titanfall game starting today and we will be removing the game from subscription services on March 1, 2022. We will, however, be keeping servers live for dedicated fanbase still playing and those who own the game and are looking to drop into a match.

Rest assured, Titanfall is core to Respawn’s DNA and this incredible universe will continue. Today in Titanfall 2 and Apex Legends, and in the future. This franchise is a north star for the calibre of experiences we will continue to create here at Respawn. Thank you from the entire Respawn team.”

In our original review for Titanfall, Stefan wrote: “Respawn’s first game is a bold push to create that new must-have multiplayer game, and in so many ways they succeed. It fails to deliver on the potential of an online campaign, almost falling into the same trap that befalls their single player-laden competitors, and doesn’t really attempt to create new and interesting game modes. What it does is lay the foundations for a series of games with a rich mixture of ideas, with that compelling juxtaposition of the agile Pilots and the imposing might of the Titans at its core.”
