Assassin’s Creed Valhalla free to play for a limited time

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is free to download and play, but for a limited time only. Ubisoft has kicked off its “Free Weekend” initiative, allowing anyone to experience its Viking sim on most available platforms.

The free play period will run from Thursday, February 24 2022, to Monday, February 28 2022. You can find a download link by visiting your platform’s digital store and downloaded the newly available full game trial for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla.

There’s a reason behind Ubisoft’s timing for the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla free play period. In just a couple of weeks, a huge new expansion – titled Dawn of Ragnarok – will touch down.

Although inspired by historic events and personae, there has always been a mythological edge to the Assassin’s Creed series. This became even more prominent in the recent trio of sequels, starting with Origins, as heroes battled against ancient monsters as well as their Templar foes.

Developer Ubisoft Sofia fully embraces this change of direction in Dawn of Ragnarok. In the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla expansion we leave Eivor and the bickering warlords of England behind, instead taking to the Nine Realms as Odin himself.

Tempted to give Dawn of Ragnarok a try? It doesn’t matter how far you are into Valhalla, the expansion offers a power level boost for those wanting to dive into Dawn of Ragnarok, even if you’re completely new to the game. With that said, this has been designed as endgame content, so expect a potentially steep learning curve as Odin if you choose to take that path.

In other news, you may have recently spotted a new update for the game – check here for the Assassin’s Creed Valhalla 1.5.0 patch notes.

Looking even further ahead, there has been speculation as to what the next game in the series will be. Reports suggest a smaller game is in the works – originally an expansion – that will centre on Basim, with a greater focus on stealth gameplay.

  1. I only see the PS4 version for the trial on my PS5. Is that right, it doesn’t include the PS5 version?
