The public vote for the BAFTA Game Of The Year, aka the BAFTA Games: EE Game Of The Year, is now open and will let you choose your favourite until 6pm GMT on Friday 1st April, so you have got a while to choose.

To vote, visit: https://ee.co.uk/why-ee/baftagames. The winner will be announced at the BAFTA Games Awards on Thursday 7th April 2022.

UPDATE: Voting should be live but for some reason the link is to last year’s page. The issue is being investigated.

Due to timings two of the biggest and well reviewed games of recent weeks are not eligible, you cannot vote for Elden Ring or Horizon: Forbidden West.  The last twelve months has seen many games delayed until this year so there are few blockbuster titles in the list, which perhaps is a good thing as smaller games have their chance in the spotlight.  Here are the six games which you can vote for:

  • Chicory: A Colorful Tale
  • Deathloop
  • It Takes Two
  • Metroid Dread
  • The Forgotten City
  • Unpacking

I must admit I have not even heard of the first game but we did review and scored it 9/10.  “Chicory lived up to my expectations and more,” said Steve. “The traversal is a joy throughout, the puzzles brilliantly judged and the whole experience is a joy to play from start to finish. The final result is one of the best indie games I’ve played in years. Chicory: A Colourful Tale is a true masterpiece that deserves to be played by all.”

Next up a game that needs no introductions as it was our Game of the Year, Deathloop. We gave that title 10/10 in our review, “Deathloop is the kind of game that will get in your head and stay there even when you’re not playing,” said Aran. “Colt is a great protagonist, the intricate environmental design is a dream to explore, and the loop system keeps things fresh and offers so much replayability. Simply put, Deathloop is fantastic.”

It Takes Two will be a popular choice, husband and I are enjoying it very much. We gave it 8/10 in our review, “It Takes Two is a great rom-com romp filled with action, oodles of variety, and more than a few twists and turns. No, you won’t like Cody and May for much of the game, and some segments do feel a touch drawn out, but grab the right co-op buddy and this is a hoot,” said Stefan.

Metrodroid Dread is up next, another 9/10 review from us. “Metroid Dread sees the galaxy’s best bounty hunter return in fine form. It takes the terror of being hunted from Metroid Fusion, the more modern direction of Samus Returns, and the freedom to add to the series’ decades of lore to create something that’s nigh on essential for Metroid fans,” spoketh Stefan.

The Forgotten City is a bit of an odd choice, we never reviewed the game but it has a Metacritic score of 84. We did manage to get our hands on a preview though, “it’s shaping up to be one of the most compelling games of 2021,” said Alexis.

Finally, Unpacking, or ‘Super Marie Kondo All-Stars’ as we called it. Steve was on review duties again scoring the game 8/10. “Unpacking is real gem that deserves a wide audience,” he said. “It is short, but the sheer love and care put into the entire game shines through at every turn and the careful balance achieved between freedom and restriction ensures satisfaction without frustration. Add in a wonderfully realised and intimate narrative that makes brilliant use of the values we place upon objects and you have an indie game that should find a place in your collection.”

  1. Strange list they’ve given to choose from. I doubt more than 1 or 2 would be in the top 6 if it were an open vote.

BTW the link to vote didn’t work for me.

  2. I’ll wait for the follow-up article about the voting actually being open ?
