The Swarm update is now live for No Man’s Sky, bringing war and a new threat to the galaxy for players to run into and encounter. Check out the launch trailer, which really channels a bit of the ‘tears in the rain’ monologue for its narration.
Sadly, we won’t be watching C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate, but there is a a huge new threat. A new Hive of Glass ship has appeared with nearly impenetrable defences that include surrounding itself with a swarm of smaller battle drones. If you hope to take it down, and “It will take a combined community effort to take it down”, then you’ll have to defeat those drones in order to reach and target its main weapon system… which includes the biggest laser cannon ever seen.
The ‘raveller soul has been split into three for this task – the royal, the sage, and the weaver – and all three groups are set to compete for glory, while co-operating on the task at hand, fighting drones, analysing their wreckage (while fighting off ground-based drones), and figuring out how to sabotage the swarm. Hello Games call all those with fully kitted out S-class ships to join the fight!
Expedition 22, as this update is, will last for around 8 weeks, through June and most of July.
