The Escapists 3 announced, and it’s got a whole new dimension

Team17 has announced The Escapists 3, which is looking to break out in 2027, and coming to PC, Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PS5.

The jump to 3D graphics is the most eye-catching part of this, but The Escapists 3 promises to recreate everything that players love about the earlier titles.

There will be five distinct prisons in the game at launch, over 120 new weapons to steal and craft, as well as the fundamentals of sticking to routines, learning guard rotations, and figuring out the systems you need to exploit in order to escape. There won’t be a single solution for each prison, but rather a range of options. You can customise your inmate and grow their abilities, earning XP to unlock new skills and escape in your own particular way.

Featured in the announcement trailer, there’s cutting through fences, tunnelling through walls, rappelling up walls, and even hang-gliding from a handy rooftop!

The game will also feature support for two player local split-screen and up to four players online.

Harley Homewood, General Manager, team17, said: “The Escapists, as a series, has aptly been both a breakout and runaway success for team17. As such, I’m delighted that we’re offering players the chance to become institutionalised once more, but this time in fully realised, 3D correctional facilities. It’s a fresh perspective on a fan favourite, and today’s announcement is just a sneak peek of what’s to come.”

It’s been a good long while since The Escapists 2 launched back in 2017. We loved it, for how it evolved and grew on the original game’s concept from a couple years prior, with Aran saying in our review, “The Escapists 2 is a game that has added a lot to the formula that gave its predecessor success, while managing to maintain its core identity. If you played the original Escapists then getting the sequel is a no brainer.”
