Back in June, Nine Dot Studios confirmed that Outward 2 would not be launching in 2026, having previously aimed to release it into early access on July 7th. After a few months of silence, Nine Dot Studios is now ready to confirm a new Outward 2 early access release date, and that date has been penned in for February 8th, 2027.
In a post on Steam, the team at Nine Dot Studios said, “First we’d like to thank once again everyone for being so supportive when we announced Outward 2 was getting delayed. We have been hard at work and the game is shaping up more and more beautifully with each passing day. The time has now come to announce the new release date so you can look forward to it. Outward 2 will be coming on PC in Early Access on February 8th!”
Alongside the release date announcement, Nine Dot Studios released some more information about the early access approach for Outward 2. In that updated information, Nine Dot anticipates that the early access stage will last for 12 to 18 months, incorporating new content along the way while sticking to the studio’s ethos of being anti-crunch. The timeframe may get extended depending on feedback from players and the work of bringing additional content into early access before making Outward 2 ready for the 1.0 release. In terms of what is going to be in the early access version, that content is as follows:
- 3 fully playable open world regions to discover. Another region will be playable but will be improved over time during EA
- 3 starting scenarios each in a different city
- 3 different questline each with 3 available missions out of the 7 planned for 1.0
- 6 trainers to develop the build fitting your playstyle
- Most of the gear and weapons to progress in the game
When Outward 2 launches into early access it will be released at a discounted price, with the price likely to go up once the game gets its full launch. A little while ago, I went hands on with Outward 2 and said, “Outward 2 is a game that will appeal to those that want an RPG with survival elements, where no quest log tells you what to do, no markers to pinpoint exactly where you are, and where you deal with cold, heat, hunger, and thirst as well as the dangers around you. It is a tough experience but Outward 2 comes across as a game that will reward those who persevere. If it is successful it could also see more studios benefit as Nine Dots expands into publishing, allowing for a more varied game industry at a time when it is needed.”
