Sure, Costume Quest was only released last month, but Tim Schafer’s Double Fine Productions have already announced the next quirky downloadable title, Stacking.
The 1930’s-themed puzzler sees you play as Charlie Blackmore, apparently “the world’s smallest Russian stacking doll”, which allows you to stack yourself inside other characters, each with their own specific characteristics and abilities, in order to make your way through puzzles.
Stacking will also include multiple ways to complete your objectives, allowing players to have fun experimenting with the many potential stacks, and likely leading to more than a few “that worked?” moments.
The game is planned for a Spring 2011 release on PSN and XBLA, and you can see the first screenshots over at IGN.

DOUBLE FIIIIIIIIIIIIINE!
Looks interesting though to say the least, I love the idea of Russian dolls running around and the art direction just makes the whole thing look even better.

Tim Shafer is awesome, and Double Fine makes some great games. I haven’t finished CQ yet, as I wanted to save it for special occasions of sorts, mainly all hallows eve. But I didn’t get to finish it then. And now there’s an expansion in the works, so there’s no reason not to finish the vanilla quests. Yes, Stacking. I’m sure it will be great, and I’m already sold, just because it’s looking very fine.

Looks interesting, but I doubt it will be very good.

Hehe even watching that brought a smile to my face. I love the kooky feel of Tim Schafer’s games. If he ever makes a sequel to Psychonauts, I may actually have to find and marry him.

Not really into puzzle games but that looks like it could be a lot of fun.

Ha, that looked, well you said it, quirky. I really enjoyed that video and it’s certainly out the game on my radar.
