More PixelJunk Lunacy!

As our previous posting of screenshots showed, PixelJunk Monsters looks more lovely than an ad campaign for NFS: Pro Street. Now, Dylan Cuthbert – our friend, no less – has divulged some more info about just what Monsters is all about.

Monsters…take the simple RTS concept of building and researching and having base defenses…and wrap it all in a completely different style and mode of gameplay that the Japanese public (and hopefully the West too, of course!) would really get into.

The screenshots certainly bear out the stylistic differences between this and most other RTS games. Q-Games has made a deliberate decision to hark back to the pre-PlayStation era, and they are using scads of gorgeous, hand-drawn 2D art to do this. The resultant look is fresh and appealing, and perhaps this approach will attract people who wouldn’t normally look at an RTS once, never mind twice.

Even better news is that our mate Dylan says, PixelJunk Monsters will be available on PlayStation Network globally in January.

Cynically, we expect globally to mean ‘in the US’, but we would never let that go live on the site.
