First Look: Spyro: Dawn Of The Dragon

Spyro the Dragon, bless him, was something of a PS1 mascot back in the day. After a less-than-stellar main sequel Sierra is looking to bring the series right back into the forefront of PlayStation gamers, with this stunningly presented third title. Despite the fact that the game is also being developed for the PS2 and Wii (not to mention the DS) it’s clear that developers Etranges Libellules are aiming high with the visuals, as our screenshots below will attest.

Sierra aren’t scrimping on the voice talent either, with Elijah Wood, Gary Oldman, Christina Ricci, Blair Underwood, Mark Hamill and Wayne Brady rounding out an all-star voice cast. This time around Spyro teams up with an unlikely ally – Cynder, his former enemy, to face his most challenging mission to date. As Mark Hamill’s Dark Master starts to take over the world, Spyro must unlock the true power of the purple dragon within him and save the planet.

Spyro has a few new tricks up his purple sleeves to help him: he can now fly at any time and the all new co-op mode means that another player can jump in as Cynder whenever the going gets tough and giving them more freedom to explore Spyro’s world in completely new ways.

Spyro has grown up a lot since his debut, and players are going to notice advanced gameplay, character design and story lines in Dawn of the Dragon,‘ said Al Simone, senior vice president, Global Marketing for Sierra Entertainment. ‘The game takes some exciting twists and turns – fans of the series and newcomers alike will experience non-stop fun, a renewed sense of intensity and the type of challenging adventure only Spyro can overcome.”
