Games Good For Kids

Tom Watson, a cabinet minister who is responsible for keeping the UK government up to date on technological issues, has spoken out in favour of gaming.

He raises the obvious points that interacting is always better than passively staring and that there are things to learn in games. He doesn’t mention the PS3 at all though (it is included breifly later in the article), only the Wii and something called an “Xbox” get talked about. I’ve no idea what that is.

There are the usual tawdry comparisons between obesity rates and the popularity of gaming but listen, at least they seem to have mostly stopped blaming games for school shootings and childhood mentalism. One step at a time…
