I Am Alive Is A First Person Shooter

Every once in a while, you’ll see a teaser trailer that just catches your curiosity. Watchmen did it for me. With the trailer filling me with great excitement I have since read the comic and now know everything there is to know. Where am I going with this? Oh yeah. Cast your mind back to E3 of last year where we were given a glimpse at a game called I Am Alive. This was a trailer that caught my attention, so it is extremely pleasing to have some fresh information.

A new magazine preview has revealed that Ubisoft’s mysterious disaster game I Am Alive is a first-person shooter. According to the latest issues of Games TM, you assume the role of Adam Collins after a mysterious earthquake destroys Chicago. As Adam you’re out to find your missing girlfriend and along the way you manage to gain the attention of a silent government task force.

“In I Am Alive, we’re not only turning your everyday life upside down; we’re also changing the very social values and rules that both everyday life and videogames rely on.” producer Alexis Goddard spills in the mag. On deciding on a first-person view, he adds: “We wanted the player to really feel the power of Mother Nature, to feel the danger coming from the collapsing towers and devastating rifts, feel the chaos happening all around him. There’s nothing like a first-person view to create that kind of emotion.”

“We encourage the players to use tactics, diversion, and discretion,” Goddard says of the game’s combat. “You’ve found a police shotgun, which is out of bullets — rightfully so, since Chicago has long been a proponent of a ban on guns. How about some intimidation? After all, who knows the gun is empty but you? Just point it at looters and they’ll remain at a distance as you progress toward your objective. However, you can only aim it at one person, so you have to watch for being flanked.”

Even though it was rumoured that Assassin’s Creed producer Jade Raymond was running the show for this survival game, disappointingly she is not.

For those of you who haven’t got a clue what I’m on about, check out the teaser trailer here.
