My obsession with finding out about the people behind the voices is starting to gather pace and part 4 provides some interesting people. As with all of these blogs I am aware that some of you may already know the following but hopefully it will still throw up the odd fact for you to enjoy.
Graham McTavish – Dante [Dante’s Inferno]
Despite the fact that the game isn’t actually out yet I thought I’d prepare myself for the inevitable “What’s he from?” by researching in advance. You may have seen this Scotsman in TV shows such as The Bill, Casulty, Rome and Red Dwarf, films such as Ali G, Rambo (2008) and King Arthur, but you would have also heard his voice in videogames. Heavenly Sword, Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 and, ironically, Modern Warfare 2 all appear on his CV. You might be surprised to hear that this man is also Zoran Lazarevic from Uncharted 2.
Sam Witwer – Starkiller [Star Wars: The Force Unleashed]
This one actually came about in reverse. There I was watching The Mist (for about the 10th time) and as I looked at the film’s Private Jessup I was confronted with that highly annoying question (see above). Having recently seen the trailer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II it suddenly hit me that not only is he the voice of Starkiller but he’s also the image. It appears that The Force Unleashed is Sam’s only foray into videogames but he has CSI, Dexter and Smallville among his credits. As well as The Mist, obviously!
Barry Pepper – Alex Mercer [Prototype]
This face will no doubt be instantly recognisable to most people seeing as Barry has appeared in some great films including Saving Private Ryan, The Green Mile, We Were Soldiers and The Three Burials of Melquiades Estrada. Alex Mercer appears to be his first videogame part but he has subsequently voiced Corporal Dunn in Modern Warfare 2.
Jennifer Hale – Female Commander Shepard [Mass Effect]
The face may change depending on your creative skills but when playing as a female Commander Shepard in Mass Effect (1 & 2) you’ll be hearing Jennifer Hale. What else has Jennifer done? Putting countless children’s animated shows aside, she is also responsible for Naomi Hunter and Emma Emmerich from the Metal Gear Solid series.
Moon Bloodgood – Uriel [Darksiders]
In the category of ‘Actresses with six or more ‘O’s’ in their name’, Moon Bloodgood has to be my favourite! Moon’s biggest part has to be Blair from Terminator Salvation…that is unless you are a particular fan of Street Fighter: The Lengend of Chun-Li where she played Det. Maya Sunee.
