What started out as an intended one-time blog about voices in video games seems to have turned into a 5-part blog with this being the fifth. I have only felt the need to look into four voices this week as a lot of people I’ve researched have turned out to be quite boring.
Robin Atkin Downes – Rico Rodriguez [Just Cause]
With all these Just Cause 2 trailers flying around I decided that Rico would be my next port of call. The original game was the first ever seventh generation title that I played after purchasing my first Xbox 360. As well as Rico, this is the man responsible for voicing Tenzin from Uncharted 2, Fletus from Brutal Legend and Captain Slag from Ratchet & Clank. He’s also Daedelus from Resistance 2, Travis from No More Heroes, The Prince from PoP: Warrior Within and Navarro from Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. You’ll soon hear him as Kazuhira Miller in MGS: Peacewalker. He’s a busy man.
Yuri Lowenthal – The Prince [Prince of Persia]
So The Warrior Within was covered by Robin Downes but The Sands of Time and The Two Thrones had their Prince voiced by this guy. He seems to mainly do ‘additional voices’ with the likes of Uncharted 2’s Serbian soldiers and Uncharted’s pirates, Mass Effect 2 and Crawler Splicers from Bioshock 2 all on his CV. But he also has Frodo from Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Vieri de’ Pazzi from Assassin’s Creed II and Viggo from SSX 3 under his belt.
Jason Griffith – Sonic [Sonic the Hedgehog]
As of 2005 this man has been responsible for voicing one of the world’s most iconic video game characters ever. Currently this stands at 11 outings as the blue spike ball. His other credits include additional voices for Pokemon, Jack the Watchman from Alone in the Dark and I’ve been informed by Tuffcub that he also advertised condoms. Well, at least Sonic is in safe hands…ba dum tsh!
Reuben Langdon – Dante [Devil May Cry 3 & 4]
For some reason this guy missed out on the first 2 Devil May Cry games but alongside the blonde-haired slasher Reuben has also voiced Ken Masters from Street Fighter IV and Dave Johnson from Resident Evil 5. But his main bulk of work doesn’t come in the form of voice acting nor acting; he’s primarily a stuntman. His stunts can be seen in Dexter, CSI and the US version of The Office, bizarrely. Oh, and he has performed stunts for a little-known James Cameron film called Avatar…sounds like a flop to me!
