Bungie: We’re Not Comfortable Talking About PS3

Now that the shackles of Halo have been removed*, Bungie have been speaking to C&VG about the prospect of doing something deemed both bizarre and sacrilegious up until now: developing for the PS3.

In a somewhat ambiguous statement, head Bungier Brian Jarrard mentions how, at this minute at least, things are still a little up in the air at the studio. Despite the vagueness of what the future might hold, however, this doesn’t discount the possibility of working on Sony’s platform. He said:

“I mean, I think our whole future’s kind of undefined right now, and it’s definitely not something we’re going to be comfortable getting into too much detail about.

“We’ve had another [non-Halo: Reach] team internally for quite a while now – they’ve been working on the genesis of what will become our next big thing. It’s a little premature to get into specifics, but you know I think we have a really good mix of old blood and new blood in the studio.”

If our recent hands-on impressions of Reach is anything to go by, Sony fans should be praying to their gamings gods that Bungie do decide to embrace the PS3 console going forward.

After Reach, Bungie are pretty much free to develop future titles on any platform they choose. That said, a recent report has suggested that the prospect of Bungie never working on another Halo title again is somewhat premature, so who knows, Reach might not be the last Bungie Halo game ever. As long as they can also spread their creative wings and deliver this new “next best thing”, we’ll be happy.

* We’re kidding, we’re sure they view their time working on the mega-franchise as nothing but a positive experience.
