Sony Discontinues PSP Room

Sony have announced that they will not be continuing with the development of their PlayStation Room service now that the beta period has ended. What will now never be seen outside of Japan, Room was the PSP’s equivalent to the PS3’s Home social experiement. Hip Japanese tweens could meet up, share content, blog, create cool avatars and generally hang out in a virtual world with like-minded PSP owners.

No explanation was given for the decision not to keep developing the portable social network service though feedback gathered during the beta will be used to forge Sony’s future plans in the digital space. SCEJ did also request the community’s “profound understanding” as to why this decision was made. But that’s just standard Japanese courtesy. It’s like saying sorry when you step on someone’s toe/head.
