EA Partners boss David DeMartini has been speaking to CVG and has stated that the Modern Warfare franchise may have been irreparably “damaged” by the public sacking of Jason West and Vince Zampella.
The situation between Activision and West & Zampella has been well documented from the very beginning and DeMartini believes that such a public situation has tainted the Modern Warfare name.
A franchise is damaged – maybe never to be the same again. But then at the same time other things spring up. As one thing dies, you have Respawn popping up – who are going to do other great things in collaboration with us now.
Although DeMartini did concede that the situation over at Activision was an unfortunate one.
I don’t like to see that go on in our industry at all. That was a hugely successful franchise. I’m sure Vince and Jason didn’t want to get fired and now looking at it the whole thing’s kind of blown up.
EA have been very vocal in their intention to re-gain the FPS crown and with Respawn Entertainment now on board, along with the already-successful Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and the upcoming and highly anticipated Crysis 2, they may well just do that.
But do enough of the gaming population actually know about the situation for it to affect the Modern Warfare franchise? Gamers are a savvy bunch for the most part and whilst many, if not all of you reading this,  will know about the problems, MW2 sold millions of copies and not every gamer keeps up to date with the industry side of things.
So. Let’s ask you guys. Even now, considering we have had no real details on MW3, have your opinions/perceptions of the Modern Warfare franchise changed and will you still be interested in the 3rd instalment?
