Vaizey Is UK’s New Minister for Culture

Pro-videogame advocate Ed Vaizey has been named as the UK’s new Minister for Culture as part of the country’s new Conservative/Liberal Democrat coalition government. It’s good news for developers as Vaizey has spoken out on numerous occasions about the need for better support for the UK’s under-fire gaming development community due to other countries such as Canada providing tax-break incentives to encourage developers to their shores.

As Shadow Arts Minister, Vaizey assured that, should the Conservatives come to power, they would proactively champion a programme of financial measures to support the gaming sector.

ELSPA director general Michael Rawlinson welcomed the appointment noting Vaizey’s unique “grasp as to the importance of the video games industry and its cultural impact.”
