Speaking to C&VG about the recent megaton announcement of Insomniac Games’ decision to go multiplat with a future IP, EA Partners’ boss David deMartini reckons Insomniac should expect to shift twice as many units as before.
“Hopefully in partnership with us, they’ll be able to take it out to at least twice as many gamers as their other games have enjoyed – both by working with us and expanding onto [360].”
Commenting on what attracted Insomniac to EA’s partnership program and away from being a Sony-only studio, he continues: “I think two of the biggest value-drivers for independent developers are IP ownership and the opportunity to develop on multiplatforms. Previously Insomniac has only been on the Sony platform, and they’ll continue to be on the Sony platform. ”
It’s something of a no-brainer to state a multiplatform game will sell more than a title that is tied to a single console. It is interesting to note, however, how the EA boss states “at least twice” as many consumers will pick up the new title, suggesting 360 gamers will be exceptionally interested in what Insomniac have in development.
The question remains: which direction will Insomniac go? A Resistance-esque shooter to appeal to the 360 audience known for their predilection toward FPSs? Or a platforming type game along the lines as Ratchet & Clank, the assumption here that 360 players are crying out for some quality platforming action?
To finish, and to prove that, no matter what they decide to do Insomniac are an awesome bunch of guys, here’s the studio’s CEO and founder Ted Price calling up zealous fan Brandon Winfrey thanking him for his positive reaction to the recent news.
