Microsoft’s big Summer downloadable event reaches its halfway point today with the release of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Konami’s seminal series has been away for a while so here’s hoping that the newest installment is just as good as some of the previous ones have been.
For those of you keeping track of these things, the first title in the Summer of Arcade promotion was the much-lauded Limbo which we reviewed extremely strongly. That was followed by Hydro Thunder Hurricane, a reboot (or sequel – you decide) of the old Midway Dreamcast game. Hydro Thunder also reviewed very well so Summer of Arcade has set its own bar particularly high.
Gamers who have already picked up Limbo and Hydro Thunder Hurricane will qualify for their 400MSP rebate by purchasing their third Summer of Arcade game before August 31st. If you’re planning on buying all five titles in the promotion, though, you will be in line for a 1200MSP rebate. Essentially this makes one of the games free. So what’s up next?
August 11th sees the release of Monday Night Combat, a game which looks like equal parts Running Man and Smash TV to us. Rounding out the Summer of Arcade on August 18th is Lara Croft’s latest adventure: Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light which sees the plucky heroine take her puzzle-solving skills to a more isometric viewpoint.

As long as you’ve bought them before the 31st of August they count towards your eligibility for the rebate so if you’ve bought three of them before the end of August you get 400MSP back and if you bought all five before the end of August you’ll get 1200MSp back. Each one is 1200MSP so that makes one of them free!

It’s – very roughly – about £10 if you shop around for points cards. I’ve got the 2100 cards in the “2 for £30” deal in HMV a few times and Game sell them for around £18 I think.
