Last month, Double Fine (of Brutal Legend and Psychonauts fame) boss Tim Schafer announced that his studio was working on four unique and separate games, split between downloadable and disk titles. Today the company announced the first of those, a downloadable adventure RPG by the name of Costume Quest, coming this autumn to the PSN and Xbox Live.
The story sees your hero (or heroine; the choice is yours) and their little sister starting out trick-and-treating on Halloween night, before they encounter a monster who kidnaps the aforementioned sister. The player must then complete quests and defeat baddies to find his or her missing sibling.
Whilst Costume Quest is being helmed by the studio’s lead animator Tasha Harris, Schafer is providing a “supporting role”, and Double Fine’s unique brand of humour and style runs through the game. The game is played from an isometric perspective, and for more difficult missions, the player can call on four computer-controlled buddies (no word on co-op, online or off). Boss battles see the player’s costume manifest itself literally – a robot costume transforms into a massive mech, whilst a medieval sweater turns into a knight.
The game is scheduled for a release this Halloween, and is one of two upcoming Double Fine titles to be published by THQ. For more information and screenshots, head over to 1up’s exclusive reveal.

This actually sounds quite good, the screenshots over at 1up look great.

The story seems familiar to Fable 2 :P

Yeah it kind of does but with a Schafer twist me like even though I didnt like Brutal Legend that much.

Sounds alright, hopefully Double Fune can keep up the standards of Brütal Legend. Also, am I the only one who can’t read ‘Double Fine’ without hearing Rob Halford screaming it?
