Beyond Good & Evil HD Coming

Cult classic and one of the last-gen’s finest – if tad overlooked – games, Ubisoft have announced that a HD sprucing of Beyond Good & Evil is in the works. The game will be available on both PSN and Xbox LIVE.

Despite less than stellar sales, Beyond Good & Evil was recognised by critics as a solid, bold adventure game and, perhaps somewhat unexpectedly, made a lot of sites’ top 10 lists for the year.

Players take on the role of Jade, a headstrong and resourceful reporter who works with a resistance movement to unearth an alien conspiracy that threatens her planet. The updated version will be the same game released in 2003 with 1080 visuals, updated models and textures along with the standard Trophy/Achievement mandate. The game’s score will also be remastered.

Fantastic news for those who gravitate toward compelling gameplay and a polished narrative. Expect the refurbished title next year. The much discussed and oft-rumoured cancelled sequel is still in development.

  1. It deserves a second chance, if the price is right i’m happy to pay for HD update.

  2. Must buy!!

  3. One of Xbox’s finest? Beyond Good & Evil is a multiplatform title. Technically, you’re correct but it’s a bit of an odd thing to say considering it’s also one of PlayStation 2’s finest.

  4. Have wanted to play this for ages, great news!

  5. Had (still have) this on PS2, and never completed it. Like Kevatron, got distracted by newer and shinier things, but absolutely loved it while I played it. Hopefully this will give it a new lease of life, and encourage Ubi to carry on with the sequel that was teased a year or two back.

  6. Bought this when it was first released, really enjoyed it. A HD remake would be very nice!

  7. My life is now complete.

  8. i never played this, but if what all you say about the game is true, then i am definitely going to get it as soon as it comes out on PSN.

  9. Best news all week. This shoots right up my want list to start bothering the top 3.

  10. I wondered how they’d handle re-releasing standalone titles with no sequels to cash in on the “HD revamp” craze, and I guess download was the only way to go.

Wonder how they’ll get this one running on Xbox Live though, as I recall the original was well over 2GB, so with the additions you’d imagine it’d stay pretty hefty in size. Guess there’s gonna be a lot of compression needed there. That should bode well for the in game video.
