Polyphony Say GT 5 Delay Is Just 3 Days

Here’s some good news for everyone that’s still crying big fat tears after yesterday’s Gran Turismo 5 delay news – as far as Polyphony Digital are concerned, the delay’s just 3 days.

That’s according to Game Reactor, who cite one of their journalists currently at the Japanese developer’s studio who’s directly quoting Kazunori Yamauchi.

Of course, this is a 3 day delay in getting the game mastered and gold, and thus could well translate into a bigger delay to get the game pressed, duplicated, shipped, boxed and distributed, but it’s still looking incredibly likely to hit before Christmas unless further delays manifest.

Of course, three days could be just enough to build in – say – a newer firmware requirement…

  1. I don’t buy a 3 day delay at all – that can easily be recovered with extra hours during crunch time.

For me, something else is going on, whether its:

    – To add security to make life more awkward for the people who are running jailbroken machines
    – To time the game’s launch with a new major milestone firmware, with features that are too big for a game of this stature to miss
    – Just a ploy to create marketing buzz and extra sales

Even though a 3 day delay in handing off the code to Sony could be easily recovered , but even if it couldn’t (which it could be) that would only lead to a week long delay at the most, as opposed to a “it will be out before the end of the year” response

    • I guess the “it will be out by the end of the year” is in case anything else slips as a result of the initial delay. Delaying twice in a few weeks would look incredibly unprofessional.

    • The forced 3.50 firmware is starting to gain some wait. GTPSP required running above a certain firmware on PSP (6.50 maybe?) and included it on the UMD.

      • *cough* weight *cough*

      • Bloody hell, i’ll have to re-call the grammar police now :-(

  2. Can they make any updates and clear it through QA in 3 days? Or is it 3 days dev and then QA, pressing etc…

    • 3 days late in just handing over to Sony

Which Sony could presumably make up in QA-ing faster, pressing faster, and even if they couldn’t press fast enough and not enough stock was pressed, I’m pretty sure stock shortages would only add to the hype and sales

      imo something else is afoot

      • To be honest I don’t want games to go through QA faster. Slower would probably be better looking at some titles.

      • Regardless, 3 days isn’t a noteworthy delay that couldn’t have been recovered in the run up to the delay, or recovered at a later stage.

Project management of a project of this scale would dictate that you weren’t going to make crunch time long before now, and the process would have been altered along the way to make sure the delay never actually materialised.

If it was a 3 month, maybe even a 3 week delay then understandable, but 3 days…. no way

(unless they have the worst project management skills ever)

      • I agree with Raen, I would rather wait for a game to be properly tested (like PS1 & 2 games) than get one with loads of bugs.

  3. Is it just me who thinks it isn’t a massive conspiracy to build in a new firmware?
How about it just going to QA for final testing and there being loads of bugs to fix??

That would explain the 3 day delay (plus QA time again)

Surely they aren’t stupid enough to delay it furtherjust to add window demisters

  4. I’m with CC_Star, I just don’t by it at all, it’s to close to the release date to pull it for something like this. They haven’t told us the full reasoning behind the delay, like they did with LBP, at least that had a reason for the delay. We still don’t know the full reason and I’m begining to think this may have been planned from the start. Possible to generate hype or to combat the MS counter attack with Forza?

  5. Omg, how many times must this game be delayed. It’s going to get delayed again.

    • it’s the first time it gets delayed in Europe.

  6. Delayed due to Cross Game Chat???!!!

  7. If it’s only 3days then it must be gold today or tomorrow?

  8. GT5 and AC: Brotherhood is the only two games I’m buying this fall, and chances are they’re gonna be released even closer to eachother than first planned, which is quite inconvenient for me…

  9. If it is delayed 3 retail days and comes out on the 8th November, its just one day before the biggest selling game of this year – Black Ops. Although the 8th November would be a Monday and usually we get games on Fridays (with exceptions such as the COD games as they release worldwide on the same date).

  10. Lets hope it really is just 3 days.
