The financial papers might not be a usual source for gaming news, but something circulating in the last hour or so (from Barron’s) is that Apple might be looking towards Adobe, Walt Disney or – get this – Sony for an acquisition.
ProActiveInvestors, as part of today’s round up, simply states that Apple is “facing speculation that it could acquire Adobe Systems, Sony, or even Walt Disney.”
Of course, Apple has a lot of money and these sorts of stories surface every other day – to be honest the company buying out Adobe would be of much more interest, but we’ll see where this one goes over the next few hours.
Presumably straight into the bin.
Update: We’re hearing that a move for EA is also possible and much more likely. It’s going to be a crazy afternoon on the US markets.

I hate Apple products to be honest, other than their Macs. Their software is mostly dogplop too. Take over EA if anything, but please leave Sony alone.
cc_star
Their software is amongst the worst I’ve ever used, it’s utter rubbish in every respect.
Their hardware lags behind rivals, instead they use design as a selling point and in that regard everyone else has caught up anyway and they now realy on brand loyalty to sell which as far as I can tell is basically brainwashing people into believing they can do no wrong despite rubbish bloated software, lagging behind hardware, and lovely design that rivals equal anyway
One of the worst things about Apple though is its pious customers, with a ridiculous superiority complex.

They do have battery tech pretty much nailed though.

I do not want it to be an ‘iPS3’.
I am not a fan of Apple & all it’s smarmyness.
Juelz345
I was totally against this until I read iPS3…that sounds awesome…
But then again I’m a big fan of both Apple and Sony (and Disney, and EA and even MS for that matter).
solidsteven
i hope not as we will probaly have to pay for psn and see prices go up. I know what they would call the psp 2 if that happened the IPSP Touch
Apnomis
Buying EA would be bad news for gamers if Apple join the console war on the next cycle like many suspect – imagine all EA games (and EA Sports games) being Apple iConsole exclusives, that would seriously hurt both MS & Sony…
Buying Sony is just crazy talk IMO (but not necessarily a bad thing for the future of PlayStation – e.g. Apple’s software/interface experience and iTunes integration etc).
Walt Disney is just a bit random, and I can’t see how that links with Apple tbh.
Adobe would be the best fit of their current business – finally bringing Flash to iDevices and no doubt merging it with their QuickTime software and plugins, and software like Adobe PhotoShop is why most graphic designers use a Mac…
TheShepanator
I think that its apple’s choice to not enable flash on their devices because of security issuse or something. As if any “idevice” needs security, considering the many hundreds of jailbreaks
XiVol
It wouldn’t matter if they bought EA(Minus licensed sports games and Valve, they bring nothing much to me).
They wouldn’t be able to scrap the sports games from other consoles without loosing the licence to all the leagues.
cam the man
I must be one of the very few who do not own anything made by Apple.
gideon1451
I’ll join you there.
Blayney
Thirded. If they take over Sony and produce an iPlayStation I will have to jump ship and use xbox.
Liberi Fatali
If that was to happen the legendary Nintendo will be waiting…. I can’t stand American company’s
topgear
agreed, they are a total rip off
shifty360
there actually not when you look at the components in a new mac, and the tech in them what are rip offs are sonys viaos, there laptops beat most PCs hands down with geekbenchmarks
coruscant
I think they need to stay out of the proper gaming market (i.e the casual market) altogether. They’re the new Microsoft you know, i.e they kill competition.
Liberi Fatali
No… I don’t think so not yet but I guess time will tell over these years
stueeeee
I’m with you there. Since iphone was so ridiculously successful now they’ve got too big for their boots. They just want to remove anything that’s in their way.
Grey_Ghost13
How about Apple go and buy Microsoft! Leave Sony alone and EA and Disney. Don’t mind about Adobe, you can have them too!
Raen
They can’t, if they expended all their cash reserves they could buy just under a quarter at Microsoft’s current value.
die4game
How could it happen – according to my knowledge Sony has only issued 1/3rd of its total shares………and the total market cap. of Sony in american stock exchange is USD 34 bill…..what about the Sony’s market cap in Japanese stock exchange.
And what about the total assets of 150+ Billion USD’s ….. no need to buy them ????
Lots of questions…… waiting for official reply from Sony.
mcduff1979
being a big fan of disney sony and and ea i really hope this is utter rubbish, if apple own any of them in the future then its a very bad day indeed. i have more ea games and sony equipment and probably disney blu-rays than any other and i dont own a single piece of apple equipment at all or ever will… if this happens ill not be buying anything apple ever.
topgear
apple will takeover disney simply because of its freemason roots.
