What a strange coincidence it is for EA to be announcing a new multiplayer map pack for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 today! Regardless of motive however, VIP Map Pack 7 is good news to those hoping for some fresh locations to shoot up, with two maps based on levels in the BC2 campaign, and two fan favourites from Bad Company 1.
Oasis and Harvest Day apparently “always come out on top” of EA’s polls of the Bad Company community, and have been reworked for the sequel with full destructability, new graphics, lighting and sound, and will both be available in Rush, Conquest, Squad Rush and Squad Deathmatch modes.
Cold War and Heavy Metal are both based on levels in the game’s single player mode, and will be playable in Squad Rush and Squad Deathmatch modes. Cold War can also be played in Rush, whilst Heavy Metal joins the Conquest fun.
There’s not yet any word on a release date, or whether Map Pack 7 will make it out before this winter’s Vietnam multiplayer expansion, but the Battlefield blog will be taking a closer look at one of the new maps Heavy Metal on Wednesday. The new pack will be free for PC players, and console players with a VIP code – purchasable from the console storefronts if you bought the game pre-owned.

As much as new (presumably free) maps are always welcome, I’m not entirely sure why they are continuing support for this. After all, they have MoH online to support/enhance/fix (delete as appropriate)

Got this on my twitter feed. Is a very nice surprise indeed, especially as I seem to be oh so very heavily into battlefield these days.
