The Nintendo Wii is the undisputed victor in this generation’s sales war. In spite of this dominance, and the leaps it has made towards making our hobby more acceptable to the mainstream, some of the self-ordained “hardcore” still scoff. It’s their loss though, the Wii certainly has more than its fair share of samey shovelware but sitting atop the pile of tedious (and not so tedious, by the way) party game compilations there are some real gems.
This year saw several contenders release throughout the year with Metroid, Mario and Donkey Kong all weighing in (although not all making our finalists table). Kirby probably would have featured too, if Nintendo had seen fit to release it on this side of the Atlantic. We’ll just have to add it to next years list of candidates.
So without further ado, we present our Wii Exclusive Game of the Year 2010, the unmatched Super Mario Galaxy 2.

not surprised at all… almost all wii-owners had this one on top of their list as the Game of The Year…

I was expecting Donkey Kong to be at the top to be honest. Mind you, that might just be because it came out more recently so the excitement is fresher about it is fresher in my mind – doesn’t help that I don’t actually have a Wii, so never get the chance to play these titles!

Hmm, I should really proofread my comments as that second sentence makes no sense! =P

No surprise that a 1st party game would get Goty but who on earth decided to place Epic Mickey in the list?

Im always skeptical when it comes to Nintendo. Sure Ive played SMG (1 not 2) and it was good but did it deserve all the praise it got? Not in my opinion. It seems to me like reviewers are looking at Nintendo with rose tintend spectacles and forgetting that they’re just rehashing franchises and not even changing the formula much.
Nintendo needs some new IP I think.

Another mario game? oh wow such a surprise! Poor Mickey, as brillant as he was in his latest adventure, he hardly managed to sell that well. Donkey kong? I never like that shit in the first place, nintendo have milked the poor barsted to death. Monster hunter and golden eye look deserving of being a goty but seriously, are there any games to look forward to in 2011?
Zelda? I dunno, I mean how much more can they do with the green obbessed kid

Wii has a few RPGs in 2011… I believe, hopefully “The Last Story”

Looks good tho there looks a lot of slashing to do :\

CB – I’ve been casually thinking about this for a while but haven’t given it any deep thought until now. Fundamentally I loathe* Sonic and Mario games as I feel that they’re all about collecting stars/rings/etc. It’s the very reason why Nintendo games feel so easily dismissed. I think once you have this feeling towards a game (ie. I’m simply not going to enjoy it as it’s not a game-type for me) then the franchise is dead to me. Keep in mind how Wii are positioning themselves and it makes it a very unattractive purchase even if there are a few gems on it.
*too strong a word but it’s of zero interest.

For me, it’s the Virtual Console and WiiWare where the Wii makes the most sense. Combined I feel they have a stronger selection of games than on PSN and LIVE.

Only played a few wii games this year so I can’t really comment on whether it is good. I played the first one though and found it average at best and don’t feel that it deserves all of the praise that it got but that is just my personally opinion.

i’ve always wanted a wii but there’s so many games coming out for ps3 that’s just crazy i’ll be too busy plus with “move” i’ll be fine!!
