With only three months to go, many people are starting to get very excited for Nintendo’s next foray into the handheld arena. A video is out now showing a couple of interesting 3DS features in action. Â The first is augmented reality, which has the gamer place special cards in front of the console’s camera, which it uses as a point of reference to draw 3D objects.
The other feature is facial recognition, which sees you take a picture of someone’s face, which will then be turned into a ‘Mii’ – which are avatars normally associated with the Wii. Â Kudos goes to the transformation animation too, which looks like a Mii being suffocated to death by a face hugger!

Timesaving, but not as cool as I expected! I thought it was going to make a more realistic Mii, but I doubt it will make one much different to the one I already have!

Does no one else think the guy she photographs already looks quite a lot like a mii?

Yes…yes I do…:oD

It’s quite clever but I like to make ridiculous one’s, not one’s that look like me, that’s boring.

I think the 3DS looks good, but it’s made slightly worse by the fact that you can’t watch someone else play it from the side.

The augmented reality bit was quite cool. The Mii was a bit disappointing although in fairness it got the hair, eyebrows and nose right so it’s neat in that sense.

Cant wait to try the “3D”. I’m either going to be blown away and turn into a raging loon or be like “meh”

looks more like the mii has a box on it’s head but a cool idea nonetheless, some people >_> are no good at doing faces even on an avatar system as simple as the mii.
and that 3d card thing looks like it would be cool, kinda looks like it could turn into an eyepet type game.

I love the fact they blarred the guys face out, and then oh look that’s what he looks like, there on the 3DS you have just taken a picture of him on. Didn’t think to blur that?
