Hudson Entertainment has announced today that they are to bring ten ‘classic’ TurboGrafx titles to the PSN. The games will be available individually and will be playable on both PS3 and PSP.
Rather than create HD remixes of the games, Hudson have engineered direct ports of the original titles and they can boast a palette of no less than – brace yourselves – 482 colours! The ten TurboGrafx titles to hit the PSN are:
- Alien Crush – Pinball simulation (YouTube)
- Bomberman ’94 – Bomb throwing action (YouTube)
- Bonk’s Adventure – Mario-esque platformer (YouTube)
- Dungeon Explorer – Gauntlet-esque adventure (YouTube)
- Neutopia – Zelda inspired adventure (YouTube)
- New Adventure Island – Side scrolling platformer (YouTube)
- Soldier Blade – Vertical scrolling SEU (YouTube)
- Super Star Soldier – Another vertical SEU (YouTube)
- Victory Run – Outrun style racing (YouTube)
- World Sports Competition – a.k.a. The Olympic Games (YouTube)
The games will be available this month but no pricing has been given.

Oh, I remember Victory Run. A horrendous turd of a game already back then.

I have never heard of any of those. Mind you, I know very little about the TurboGrafx16 anyway.

That’s because it’s called the PC Engine in the rest of the world.

I have no idea what a TurboGrafx is. Is it some kind of soup?

Super Star Soldier is pretty good.

Alien Crush is brilliant, a precursor to Devil’s Crush which appeared on the Megadrive as Devil Crash (that’s what my JP import was called anyway, I think it Dragon’s Fury in the west), is miles better than the pinball games we’ve seen this gen
With the NeoGeo Station and now this I really hope Sony goes all the way and amasses a Virtual Console of their own with a range of Master System & Megadrive games… I know we’ve got the Megadrive games on disc but I’d play them far more if they could be fired up from the XMB, and besides the 360 has quite a few of those games on the XBLA, like all the Sonic’s and Fantasy Zone etc
jonny_bolton
I can get on board with the Megadrive idea. I never wanted to buy the collection on disc because I didn’t ever think I would play it. If it were however on the my PS3 HDD then I definitely would.
If they re-release Sonic 1,2,3 and Sonic 3 + Kunckles I will give them all of my money.

*Knuckles… obviously.

Devil Crash/Dragon’s Fury was absolutely fantastic, dread to think how many hours I clocked up on that. And it’s not been bested since.

Damn straight!!!
Forrest_01
So will these be minis? Or direct ports with trophies added?
Bodachi
They will be more like PS1 games.
citizeninsane45
The recent Neo-Geo games were like that but did NOT have trophies so they aren’t guarenteed to have trophy support.
Amphlett
Played 38 seconds of the Alien Crush youtube clip. Not interested.

Would buy the whole pack for a fiver ;)
