PSP2 Shot Surfaces, Is It Real?

VG247 is reporting that the image above is the first ‘official PSP2 shot’, albeit one pre-empted with ‘rumour’.

We’re thinking that it looks lovely, but could potentially be a fake, despite the ‘shopper’s best attempts to make it look like it’s from a catalog.  Those analog thumb pads look a lot sharper than the d-pad and face buttons, for example, and the big stylus looks like it’s going to struggle to fit in.

The image originally appeared on 2ch, and although it’s entirely possible that the PSP2 will look like this – especially as the recent Sony Ericsson phones share much of the same aesthetics, we’ll just have to wait and see what happens at the upcoming PlayStation Meeting.

What do you think?

  1. I’m calling fake. I doubt PSP2 will have a stylus and on top of other reasons already mentioned, the screen in that image shows a PS3 music visualisation.

    • Yep, the fact that the screen shows just some default XMB background makes it seem like a phony-sony. I would imagine that a real official picture would have a different screen-image.

      • Normally Sony press shots have a blank – as in off – screen.

  2. Firstly, if it’s a capacitive touch panel (less DS, more iPhone), you wouldn’t need a stylus.

Secondly, weren’t we recently told it no longer had a sliding design?

Thirdly, wouldn’t there be a new styled logo, rather than just a ‘2’ on the current one. New launches normally have new style logos (PS2 to PSP being the only exception).

Fourthly, if the screen is closed, it blocks the wriststrap/neckstrap loop on the bottom-right of the control pad, rendering it useless – or if worn from the neckstrap, the console would just constantly fall open.

  3. Bring on Saturday, or eventually late Friday night.

  4. its no where slick enough to be real, I mean the original PSP looks prettier then this model, nope Sony wouldnt have something with Monkey Metal for the naked eye to see.

    Foxhounds Verdict : FAKE

  5. Thursday. 6am. That’s when sony will reveal all.

  6. Hope its like this

  7. Fake

psp phone been photo shopped with 360 analogue sticks to?

  8. Imagine the PSP2 turns out to be the PSPhone haha, that would be funny

  9. I’m hoping this is fake because it’s bloody horrible to look at.

    • Seconded. I always go all-black with consoles. And once you go black, you never go back.

  10. Why would it take SD & Memory Stick when the PSPGo has M2 cards??! this is a backward step and thus fake. Perhaps the image of the device is real, but it will 100% not take the old Sony Memory Stick which has been phased out on every other Sony product!

    • Was about to post the exact same thing. The inclusion of the original style “long” memory stick is the giveaway.
Even the current PSP doesn’t take that type of stick, it has Pro Duos…
