Battlefield 3 Info On The Way

We found out last month that the Game Developer’s Conference in March will be the home of some new Battlefield 3 news, but it looks like we’re not going to have to wait that long to get some substantial info. Game Informer has just revealed that Battlefield 3 will be on the cover of their newest edition, and inside there will be a lot of details on what we can expect from both the single-player and multiplayer portions of the game.

While speaking about the details that are about to surface, they made mention of the fact that Battlefield 3 will be running on the Frost Bite 2 engine. The new engine will involve a brand new level of destruction along with graphical upgrades such as a new animation system, deferred rendering and real-time radiosity.

Keep your eyes peeled as we’ll be bringing you all the latest info as it surfaces. Battlefield 3 is still said to be launching in 2011 on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and the PC. DICE announced last year that there will be a multiplayer beta at some point this year as well.

  1. Awesome, I need info on this! Bc2 was/is amazing, near 400 hours of playtime, let’s see if this has the same attraction to me : )

  2. I really, really want to like Battlefield games, I can see why they’re good and people love them, its just my experience of Battlefield/DICE games is that there are never enough vehicles (or they don’t respawn quick enough) meaning half my game time is spent walking/running across the map only to be picked off by a sniper & have to do it all over again.

Looking forward to hearing about this though

    • Pro tip! get better and faster mate ;-)

    • You have to learn where to spawn , or be in a squad and just spawn on player closest to the battle . With time it becomes instinct to know where the next attack will come from.

    • Actually, BF2 and BF2: Modern Combat were setup perfectly with spawns (vehicles for the whole team). It’s just Bad Company 1/2 that downsized number of vehicles for some odd reason.

      • This isn’t a ‘OMG NERFED FOR CONSOLES’ comment meant to start an argument at all, but the trimming down from what was in BF2 and 2142 was probably to accommodate consoles.

While it was still excellent, the lack of scale really dented the longevity of BC2 for me compared to the original PC titles.

  3. “Real-time radiosity,” can someone enlighten me.

Graphic updates, improved animation, the best gets better.

    • I know very little about this type of thing but I think radiosity has something to do with how light is rendered within a game.

Don’t worry, someone who knows more than I will likely come along shortly and clarify. :-)

      • Dunna fret, it’s NOT me…

      • Can i squeal like a school girl now please??
        *SCREEECHES/SQUEALSSS*

      • Thank you, interesting stuff & if whoever tidied 1st word err, ty for that too :)
(I hate making a mess with an edit 2nd post, but i hate spelling mistakes even more)

    • Real-time radiosity is, in computing, a lighting technique that gives out softer shadows and lighting in a scene, rather than have sharp-edged shadows and lighting.

    • Google is your friend:

“Realtime Radiosity: global illumination technique with fantastic quality considering still pretty good framerates, the best GI approach for indoor games and real-time visualizations with fully dynamic lights.”

  4. Bollox! damn the lack of an edit, as i wanted this as a standalone…ah well (this is ad verbatim mind)
‘Can i squeal like a school girl now please??
    *SCREEECHES/SQUEALSSS*’

  5. The only way I’m buying this is if they’ve fixed the Stats so they don’t reset every five minutes.

  6. Cant wait to hear details on this, i love Bad Company 2, i hope this is even better

  7. I love the battlefield series and have been waiting for this for the last few years, IMO i still believe BF2 and 2142 are the best of the series, sry to the bad company fans but they both felt like they were missing something but i couldn’t put my finger on it, maybe it was the missing ability to go prone or maybe the lack of air combat. I own bad company 2 and racked up about 80 odd hours before i got bored of it, i have near enough 800 hours with BF2 and it still gets played.

  8. I can’t decide on whether or not the mention of single-player is a good thing or a bad thing.

BC2’s multiplayer was amazing, but it just didn’t match up to BF2 and 2142, time will tell if BF3 lives up to expectation.

    Regardless, I’m bloody excited! :P

  9. Can’t wait for this one! Thanks for the inside scoop!
