After oohing and aahing at the recent cut-scene footage of L.A. Noire – snippets of scenes showcasing Team Bondi’s sublime motion capturing technology – it’s time to get a look at the game in action.
Presented below, check out the first in-depth gameplay video for a look at how the game employs your “detective skills, intuition and cunning” to “make or break each case.”
Entitled “Orientation”, the motley array of in-game scenes depicting witness interrogation, fisticuffs and the game’s shooting mechanics all suggest another mega-hit on Rockstar’s hands.

Thats fast, seconds after the newswire
Vaile23
and looks surprisingly good!
Kamokazi-UK
Does look good, but with everything ive seen the heads dont seem to sit right on the bodies…probably becuause of the face/voice motion capture being done seperately from the body motion capture making them ‘off’ when combined in action sequences
Bilbo_bobbins
It must be me, but I just can’t get excited over this game.
cc_star
Must be you ;)
I hate R* but am really intrigued by this.
Hooley01
Hate Rockstar? Next you’ll tell me you didnt like GTA Vice City!
tonycawley
I’ve also started disliking R* mainly for churning out the same game just with different skins. This one looks a little different though, and that facial motion tech business actually looked quite impressive.
cc_star
Love Vice City, one of my all-time faves, sadly everything since then is just a gradual evolution – this looks like a revolution
Hooley01
couldnt agree more there cc, didnt get on with gta4 at all. lip syncing on this looks incredible though.
rht992
if you think they keep churning out the same game i’d highly reconmend red dead. its anything but another grand theft auto
BG123
@rht922
lol, yeah, instead of thriving cities, there’s baron deserts, and instead of cars, there’s horse and carts! biiiiig difference ;)
skibadee
@BG123 horse & a car are very different it won GOTY for a reason.
BG123
@skibadee
‘horse and cart and cars are v different’
I mean gameplay wise.
‘it won GOTY for a reason’
Dosen’t mean squat i’m afraid. I bet COD wins lots of GOTY awards, dosen’t mean they’re not over-rated crap.
muse88_James
@bg
you have no idea what you’re talking about, comparing Red Dead to CoD, lost all credibility there.
BG123
@Muse88
No, I’m afraid it’s YOU who hasn’t got a clue on what you’re on about, I’m not comparing the gameplay or anything, i’m saying they’re both over-rated and nothing new.
muse88_James
Well then, stick to the Flowers and the Fl0ws then, a game doesn’t have to do something new to be good, its how its done that matters.
BG123
@muse
so try actually reading, rather than scanning. Then you won’t make a complete ass out of yourself ;)
muse88_James
Ah, the internet, full of irony.
taurus82
It’s not just you, I was hoping for something different from R*, but this is just GTA in another time period.
I did like San Andreas, but since then they’ve been pants.
skibadee
he is looking forward to this game read the comment.
taurus82
@skibadee,
I was replying to bilbo
skibadee
just noticed sorry dude.
KeRaSh
I’m the same. The detective work looks interesting but the rest feels to GTAish. Loved Vice City but couldn’t get into any other GTA games since that.
skibadee
to you it doesn’t but to most it would mean it has credibility.
skibadee

bigdon23
Looks impresive, not sure yet if its too far away from gta to be what appeals to me though
jonny_bolton
Wow, I mean, just wow…
cc_star
Motion Scan looks like it could be just about the biggest tech leap this gen, phenomenal.
Actual believable characters that don’t have nothing going on behind the eyes and a black hole for a mouth. The facial animation has a real impact on gameplay, its the first time I’ve seen anything like it that wasn’t part of an elaborate cgi clip, & to be honest the facial animation & lip syncing was much better than even pre-rendered stuff.
Heavy Rain meets GTA?
Bilbo_bobbins
thats what it reminds me of, I didn’t realise it was all new tech, and I have to be honest I wasn’t majorly over whelmed by the graphics. I must be having a bad day lol
wuntunzee
I was not impressed at all with Heavy Rain’s attempts. Every time a character looked blankly towards another character I was brought back sharply into my living room.
I look forward to the day when DICE’s new Frostbite engine with all it’s fancy lighting becomes integrated with the Euphoria physics engine and Motion Scan, all in one chimerical package.
rht992
thats my thoughts exactly. the animation is amazing. developers should stop trying to get thier graphics just that bit better and focus on the stories and the emotions players have towards the characters
tactical20
It looks incredible. R* always come with the goods.
wick15
Becoming much more interested in this now. The animation is mind blowing. Very clever method they have used to capture every expression the actor makes.
hannes_truce
This just looks incredible. really psyched for this now.
simplebob
Wonder if the PS3 version is going to be behind the 360 version in graphics/performance again?
Sir_Jay
that was my thinking exactly.
Winkle
Well the Video was from the PS3 version which I must say looked good!
Kamokazi-UK
Gonna need that Blu-Ray space for all them fabulious models and textures!
monkeyspoon
The game was a PS3 exclusive for a very long time. It’s lead on PS3 and ported to 360. Both versions will prob be the same or the PS3 version might be slightly better. It’s almost guaranteed to be on multiple disks on 360.
Origami Killer
Looks brilliant, i spy a hige contender for 2011 game of the year, even with all the other big games being released this year, this will be a day one purchase for me
