After seventeen years in the gaming industry, British developers Bizarre are closing up today, and have ended on something of a poignant note with a video documenting some of their best games.
Put together by the studio’s video editor Eamon Urtone, it showcases what a breath of fresh air the Liverpool-based company was to the industry, putting up quality titles like Metropolis Street Racer, Geometry Wars, the Project Gotham series and, most recently, Blur and the newest James Bond title.
The company was recently bought by Activision, but the publisher issued a statement in 2010 announcing that the studio was to be sold off. “Bizarre is a very talented team of developers,” it said, “however, because of the broader economic factors impacting the market, we are exploring our options regarding the future of the studio, including a potential sale of the business.”
If nothing else, the video’s a beautiful reminder of some of the best games from the last couple of generations, but today, the 18th of February, Bizarre Creations will close up for good.
We wish everyone affected the very best of luck. And thank you.

This is indeed a real shame. On a side note, does anyone know if this means the servers for the online elements of Blur will be shut down or kept going?

Man! Bizarre Creations 1994 – 2011
Blur is amazing game but couldn’t compete with Split/Second. I just got a Platinum on Blur last week for them and needlessly to say I sold it at Games Centre =(
I still got James Bond: Bloodstone.
PGR was the most time I spent on Xbox along with Geometry Wars Both great titles aswell as Blur.
I’d say Thank You Bizarre for making what I think and believe was a great racing/arcade game I have played and Blur was the best fun I had recently.
Good luck to those who have been affected and I hope something will come along.
Smallville2106
Good luck to everyone involved. Hope they manage to move on swiftly.

007, along with Just Cause 2, were probably the best 3p shooters I played on the PS3 last year…

Bug Byte , Software Projects , Imagine – Play the Game , Psygnosis and now Bizzare Creations . Liverpool has been at the forefront of gaming since the early days and still is one of the gaming nerve centres in the western world , i hope my friend Pete in Bizzare can get something quickly and locally.
