As well as some juicy HD re-releases of Resident Evil 4 and Code Veronica, first details have emerged for the much rumoured Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City.
Due out in autumn, Official Xbox Magazine has the scoop, and it seems that the game is a team based shooter set in the Resident Evil 2 timeframe. You and up to three other players can join one of three factions as you duck and dive around Raccoon City.
One of the teams is the Umbrella Security Services Squad, and as you can imagine with a name like that you’ll be doing Umbrella’s dirty work. The team consists of four new characters: Vector, Beltway, Bertha, and Spectre.
It sounds suitably different to what we have come to expect from a Resident Evil game.

Team gameplay kinda defeats the purpose of survival horror IMO.

I disagree, it works really well in Left 4 Dead there’s still plenty of tension and horror – it’s just shared amongst friends.
Sympozium
Would be interesting to survive with four players
Jambo
Been a long time since Resi was a survival horror, has been a shooter since 4.
scavenga
Huh, sounds intriguing – so is it a twin stick shooter type game?
Delriach
This is the closest I’ll get to Outbreak. I’ll take it.
Peco
Call of Duty: Raccoon City?
Sympozium
The other Socom; Raccon City
DrNate86
Sounds pretty cool! Personally I like the more action route Resi Evil has taken, they were getting a bit stale.
BG Tips
Yep, you can never have too many generic shooting games! *sigh*
FoxHoundGabe
haha damn right!
DrNate86
As opposed to the massively original Resident Evil series pre-Resi 4?

No one said anything about originality, just something different. There is enough shooters already on the market, I want franchises to stick to what they were meant to be. Survival Horror in terms or RE, not Action-Shooter.

It think we’re forgetting a few games called Resident Evil Outbreak there Dan, ok so there was no co-op play in it but it was most probably the basis for this. This could actually be the game that gets me into online gaming!
Delriach
There was online co-op in Resident Evil Outbreak in North America and Japan. ^_^
jayjay119
I’m in Europe and I want to express my discontent with this, so it shall foever be known as not having it in my book lol.
Delriach
I really don’t understand why it was released without netplay in Europe. That was the whole point of the game >_______<
jayjay119
I know, maybe due to the lack of support there at the time? I still had fun playing the single player , regardless.
OneShotWook
Wasn’t the second online here?(Uk).
The idea behind those games was very good, limited by tech but was a fun blast even then.
dizwod
Hopefully better than the on rails shooter on wii, which was kinda fun but….yeh lol

Sounds good. I was worrying that Capcom were going to focus all their Resi efforts on the 3DS, something I have no interest in whatsoever. I’ll pick this up right away if they manage to pull it off :)
Foxhound_Solid
Resi 2 and Resi 4 are the best ones :-D
Bet this is a great game. Must get Resi 5 Gold for move too :-)

Speaking as someone who is a huge fan of the series, I’ve gotta say my personal order at the moment is:
1. RE (remake)
2. RE5 (great when playing with a mate, NOT with the AI)
3. RE4 (prefered it on the gamecube)
4. RE2 (Leon and Claire > Jill and Chris imo)
5. RE3 (Nemesis rocks!)
6. RE Code Veronica (one of my favourite Dreamcast games)
7. RE0 (good game, just didn’t get into it as much as the others)
8. RE1 (used to be a lot higher, but the REmake wipes the floor with it)
Can’t say I’ve ever played the Outbreak games, as I didn’t have online on my PS2 and the lack of voice chat put me off. Hopefully this new one really delivers on the co-op front! :D
Foxhound_Solid
Just wanted to ask dude, can you play RE5 co op on one PS3? or does it have to be online?
Me and my bro like to complete Move Compat Games in one go on co op and I am after a new challenging after Extraction.
R4U Eldave0
You certainly can play local co-op using dual shocks, although I’m not entirely sure about using the Move. Can’t see why that would be a problem though :)

jayjay119
Considering the abysmal way of playing RE5 split screen though it’s hardly worth it, unless they changed it for RE5: Gold Edition.
R4U Eldave0
Just curious but what didn’t you like about it? I thought it worked really well :|
jayjay119
I didn’t like the way the screens were smaller than they needed to be. Why did they reduce them when they could have just split the entire screen either horizontally or vertically? It was so irritating squinting to see what was going on when knowing the big black bar around theedge could have been filled by picture!
R4U Eldave0
Ahhh I remember now (haven’t played co-op for a while lol). Yes I do remember it taking a while to get used to it, but in the end I started to prefer it. It just suits a widescreen tele better imo and doesn’t cause the image to stretch
Grey_Ghost13
Oohhh Co-Op action shooter blasting Zombies!!! Bring it on zomb*ches!!! :)
