The Apple II ‘classic’ Choplifter is getting a shiny new HD remake and will soon be landing on the PSN.
The original saw your mess of pixels (a helicopter) rescuing stranded men and shooting more messy pixels (tanks). The new version keeps the same basic gameplay but adds up to date graphics and judging by the amusing interludes in the video below, a decent sense of humour.
The task of updating the game has been given to inXile who are the team behind ‘Hunted: The Demon’s Forge‘. They had this to say about the 2011 update:
Pilots will be trained to command a variety of helicopters deployed on more than 20 different missions ranging from captured military prisoner extraction to saving survivors of viral outbreaks.
Pilots must bank, hover and touch-down in perilous conditions in order to make their rescue and complete their mission.
Check out the gameplay video below and then, at the bottom, a link to the video of the original Apple II version. Just as an aside, does anyone remember the side scrolling Amiga chopper game based in the jungle? The name escapes me but the Choplifter update looks a lot like that game and that’s a very good thing as far as I am concerned.

I remember playing the hell out of this on the C64. Great times. I will be picking this up when it releases.

Thats the clincher for me too, looks fun till it gets to a certain price point.

I would hope this will be £6.29.
When Sky Fighter came out I really wanted it, but £7.99 was a bit much for what it was, and I suspect this will be the same.
the_greeze
Looks like fun and something a bit different.

There was also an Amiga chopper game called ‘Thunderblade’.
