Sometimes you wake up to news so disappointing you just want to kick a squirrel.
Today is such a day, with the confirmation that The Last Guardian and the HD re-release of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus have been pushed back, possibly until 2012.
“SCEE can confirm that we are officially delaying the release of ICO/Shadow of the Colossus Collection and The Last Guardian from their respective launch timeframes of Spring 2011 and Holiday/Winter 2011,” says the EU Blog. “We will provide more information regarding release timing at a later date.”
The re-releases were due to land sometime in spring, with The Last Guardian pencilled in for “holiday 2011”.
“I sincerely apologize to all the customers who have been waiting for The Last Guardian for so long, but I beg for your patience,” said Fumito Ueda. “I will also announce the new release timing at a later time.”
The Last Guardian’s delay makes sense in all honesty as it would be competing with titles such as Uncharted 3, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, and that’s a lot of quality titles shoved into the back end of this year.

Ah well saying that, already enough games I want this year. this will just get more of my attention when it does come out.

I’m guessing Ico/SotC is delayed only because of TLG’s delay as they might want to release them within a few months of each other.
It is a little disappointing – actually i’m pretty gutted – but i can take some solace from the knowledge that when the time comes, they will be worth the wait. I hope they still show us something at E3.
