Small bits of news continue to trickle out regarding Uncharted 3’s multiplayer, which was shown to select members of the press earlier this week. The newest bit that’s come to the attention of the media is that Uncharted 3 will not be using dedicated servers for its multiplayer. According to UnchartedCentral.com, it was Community Manager, Arne Meyer, that confirmed Uncharted 3 will go with a P2P connection, just as Uncharted 2 did.
While dedicated servers certainly seem like the best route for a lag-free experience, Uncharted 2 was one of the smoothest online games I’ve played to date. Granted, that changes from region to region and matchmaking was a little slower than I would’ve liked, but as long as Naughty Dog delivers a smooth experience, does it really matter how it’s being handled on the back end? Probably not.

I bought the DLC maps in UC2. Never ONCE got to play them. If you picked DLC maps as a preference in matchmatching, it would just sit there perpetually spinning. Like a monkey sitting on a roundabout. Hmm, I may not have completely thought this metaphor through.

Yup i agree the only times i played them was on private maps with mates.

Since the Siege map-pack got released, it has practically been impossible to get in a game if you’ve only got one of them. Not sure whether this scenario applies to you, though.
From my experience, getting into a DLC-game hasn’t been that hard, takes longer than default ofcourse, but still doable.

To be honest the only thing that bothered me in UC2 was the shitty synching live data thing that was there and it took for ever to actually load up.

MP games these days, especially exclusives, SHOULD run on dedicated servers. There’s no reason not to. You’re telling me a multi million dollar company can’t afford to have dedicated servers? SONY can’t help ND out? Give me a break!
Too much money is being made by these companies for them not to have this seemingly basic thing! GoW 3 is getting dedicated servers. A small yet well received game like Homefront has dedicated servers. Crysis 2 has dedicated servers! I’m disappointed to say the least.

As long as it is smooth and lag free I”ll be happy.

Thing is, it probably won’t be, now that they’re going for P2P again…

Apart from long waits during match making, I had no issues with U2. Dedicated servers obviously have their advantages, but it’s certainly not a deal breaker for me.

Oh well, had no interest in the multiplayer anywho. Uncharted is completely about single player and the awesome storylines/voice acting that come with them
