Mario 3DS Will Be Revealed At E3

Amongst all the angry shouting this morning, it’s nice to have a bit of light-hearted news. E3 will be the place where Nintendo choose to showcase the first proper reveal of the new Mario 3DS game.

An amalgamation of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Galaxy, this new game is “a Mario action game in 3D space” that will “fulfil the dream of Nintendo video game designer (and Mario creator) Shigeru Miyamoto to bring true depth and distance into the game’s mechanics.”

This already sounds like a 3DS killer-app.

  1. New plan.
the moment this game is released, ill get a 3DS.

  2. so far the 3DS game list have had a few ok games, but no standout must haves yet. This or Zelda could be games that stop using my 3DS to play old DS games.

  3. Sweet, I’m still surprised they didn’t launch with a Mario title.

  4. Game of the Year, even if it’s only 50% as good as Galaxy.

  5. This and a new Pokemon and I’ll get an 3DS

  6. Is that little tail a sign that the tanooki suit will return?

    • Yes, it has been confirmed to make a return to glory!

  7. Cunning! So rather than remake one old game they are remaking two! That’s forward thinking for you, well done Ninty.

    • *yawn*

    • Well, it probably won’t be a 1:1 port… Maybe they just have so many more good ideas that couldn’t be implemented in the existing games and just don’t want to let them go to waste?
I’ll hold my judgement for now. You should too. You criticised someone else because of it in another article just a few days ago…

  8. Really should have been ready and released at launch though.

  9. It’s confirmed then. A 3DS is the first thing I treat myself to when I finish moving to the US.
Mario, Zelda and a Mario Kart game will make the device worth every penny and then there’s all the other stuff.

  10. They’ve said at their investor conference they’re planning major first party releases around their third party exclusives–third parties struggle competing against Nintendo on Nintendo platforms, and the last thing they needed at launch was a Super Mario game. Granted, 3DS needed a better launch line up, but I think that should have come from third parties, like Nintendo wanted it to.

With the price still below £200 on Amazon, and since I have £150 of trade in credit, I may jump and buy a 3DS next week… I’ve still got assignments so I probably won’t buy anything till Zelda comes out, but I’d rather get one before retailers start to jack the price up again once sales go up. If Super Mario, Mario Kart, Kid Icarus are coming this year and eShop lives up to its potential, and E3 showcases good third party support, it’ll be a good investment.
