Rumour: Contents Of First Main 3DS Firmware Update Leaked

According to rumours this morning, the contents of the first major firmware update for the 3DS (we’re not counting the one that did very little on launch day) have been outed, and although the translation line is a little sketchy (Famitsu -> TheMagicBox -> Nintendo3DSBlog) it does look convincing enough.

The highlight’s the eShop, but the big negative is the lack of the internet browser, which was meant to arrive this month, last time we checked.

  • Nintendo eShop
  • 3DS Ware – Mega Man Legends 3 Prototype (200 yen), Petitcom (800 yen)
  • DSi Ware – The ability to import DSi Ware from DSi to 3DS
  • 3D Classic – Classic titles in 3D. Excitebike, Legend of Zelda and Xevious will be available
  • Virtual Console GameBoy – Ikari no Yousai, Phantasm
  • Virtual Console Game Gear – Sonic & Tails 2, Sonic Drift 2, Dragon Crystal, Columns
  • Virtual Console GameBoy Color – Super Mario Land, The Legend of Zelda DX (Demo)
  • Virtual Console TurboGrafx-16 – Games TBA
  • Demos – 3D Video Player, 3D Game Trailer/Previews Channel, Fuji TV and Nippon TV Previews

Note that the games and demos are for the Japanese market, the stuff we get, if anything, will be completely different.  Those 3D Classics – Excitebike, Zelda and Xevious should hopefully appear on European models, though, updated NES favourites with a fresh 3D flavour – lovely.

We’ll see soon enough.

  1. Awesome.

Not sure how much cop the classic games are likely to look in 3D but I reckon I could happily blow a few quid on the eShop when it is up and running.

  2. I want a date more than ever now also they’re releasing the DSI app called Flipnote (I think its called on the same time of the launch of eShop or was Miyamoto just sayin?) and wasn’t Mega Man Legends 3 suppose to be free? (memory), would be really pissed off if theres no browser though.

    Btw… Turbografx -16? is that a handheld o_O

  3. The demo feature will be pretty awesome, especially for people sat on the fence regarding the 3DS launch line-up. Hopefully demos will come in advance of a game’s release like they do over PSN and XBL (mostly.)

  4. I actually had a go on a 3DS for the first time at lunch today (they had 2 demo machines on a stand in Game).

Must admit to being really impressed with the quality and the sharpness of the 3D, but even just a few minutes with the 3D slider at about 1/3rd, I walked out the shop with tired eyes, feeling like I’d been looking at too many Magic Eye pictures.

Maybe at E3 Nintendo will tease the 2DS :)

    • Its already a 2DS though isn’t it with the silder down? hehe.. the 2DS is the NGP

      • a machine with the same processor and graphic hardware as the 3ds but with a standard 2d screen might be a good idea actually.
get the betetr looking games the 3ds can deliver but it would be cheaper and no worries about kids damaging their eyesight.

      • You can use parental control to disable the 3D (as well as just turning the slider all the way down), so no need to worry about that. Creating a sepearte model without the option of 3D could only serve to seperate the market and give devs a reason to not include 3d their games. I think a 2D version would be a bad thing, and potenially hurt those that sprang for the (presumably) more expensive 3D version.

    • Your eyes are broken ;)

  5. Bah, I was gonna sell my DSi but I guess I’ll keep it for DSiWare transfer.

  6. I just ordered my 3DS today, so i’m hoping that this update comes soon.

There aren’t any 3DS games that i want right now, so i orderd a few DS games that i missed when i had my DS Lite (Zelda: Spirit tracks and one of the professor layton games).

I’m really interested in the virual console to pick up the classis nintendo games. They should hold me over until the new Zelda and Star Fox games come out for 3DS.

I’d also be interested in adding any TSA member with a 3DS to my friends list so feel free to hit me with your friend codes.

  7. Would be nice to see the eShop and the Browser

  8. Sounds great.
