New Releases June 6th-12th

After a lean week or two, all of the publishers finally remember that if they want to sell games, they actually have to release them. So this week the store’s shelves will be absolutely packed with a whole host of AAA releases as Christmas comes comes half a year early.

First up after a long hiatus is the much anticipated return of Duke Nukem a name enshrined in video-game folklore, in part due to Duke Nukem Forever being little more than vapourware for the past decade, you can read our hands-on here. Joining Duke is Sucker Punch’s PS3 exclusive sequel inFamous 2 and a return to the caves of Mars with Red Faction Armageddon.

The best of the rest sees the game of the movie Kung Fu Panda 2 alongside DC Comics’ Green Lantern in a game inspired by the film along with White Knight Chronicles: Origins for the PSP, plus many, many more. What’s lightening your wallet this week?

Duke Nukem Forever

Platforms: 360, PC, PS3
Publisher: 2K Games
Developer: Gearbox Software

Synopsis: Irreverent, un-PC, and uber-macho, Duke Nukem is the perfect antidote to the overdose of today’s clichéd gaming archetypes. The game’s cocktail of alien invasion, busty babes, bawdy comedy and big guns never gets old. Which is just as well after such a long spell on the sidelines.

Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters

Platforms: 360, DS, PS3, Wii
Publisher: Warner Bros
Developer: Double Helix/Griptonite

Synopsis: Inspired by the feature film, which brings the enduringly popular DC Comics super hero to the big screen for the first time. In the videogame, players will utilize over a dozen constructs and take flight across the deepest parts of the Universe to restore intergalactic order by wielding the ultimate weapon: the Green Lantern power ring.

Kung Fu Panda 2

Platforms: 360 (Kinect Compatible), DS, PS3, Wii
Publisher: THQ
Developer: THQ

Synopsis: Po is now living his dream as the dragon warrior, protecting the valley of peace, alongside his friends and fellow Kung Fu masters, the Furious Five. But Po’s new life of awesomeness is threatened by the emergence of a formidable villain who plans to use a secret, unstoppable weapon to conquer China and destroy Kung Fu. Po must look to his past and uncover the secrets of his mysterious origins; only then will he be able to unlock the strength he needs to succeed.

Infamous 2

Platforms: PS3
Publisher: SCE
Developer: Sucker Punch

Synopsis: Blamed for the destruction of Empire City and haunted by the ghosts of his past, reluctant hero Cole MacGrath makes a dramatic journey to the historic Southern city of New Marais in an effort to discover his full super-powered potential – and face a civilization-ending confrontation with a dark and terrifying enemy from his own future. Gifted with extraordinary god-like abilities, Cole alone has the power to save humanity, but the question is – will he choose to do so?

Red Faction: Armageddon

Platforms: 360, PC, PS3
Publisher: THQ
Developer: Volition Inc

Synopsis: A long-dormant evil emerges from the caves of Mars, unleashing Armageddon on the planet’s colonists. With this force stopping at nothing to cleanse the planet of life, mankind finds itself poised on the brink of extinction.

White Knight Chronicles: Origins

Platforms: PSP
Publisher: SCEI
Developer: Matrix Software

Synopsis: 10,000 years before the original PS3 game takes place, there was a period of strife known as the Dogma Wars. This struggle is between the Yshrenian Empire who are harnessing the power of the Knights in a bid to conquer the world, and the Athwani Mage Kingdom who are trying to stop them. These events would shape history to come in the White Knight Chronicles saga, and White Knight Chronicles: Origins tells the story of the unsung heroes who lived through this period of unrest, only to be forgotten in the annals of time.

Just in case all that isn’t enough there’s Emily the Strange and Zhu Zhu Pets: Puppies on Nintendo DS, whilst Bracken Tor, Hidden Mysteries Notre Dame, Magic Encyclopedia 3: Illusions, Mind’s Eye: Secret of the Forgotten,Pride of Nations, Settlement Colossus, Settlers 7 and Viscount Professional make sure there’s something for all tastes on PC.

  10. Just too many games, far too many of the Bastards. How am I supposed to keep my job, my house and my family when I’m being constantly tempted to spend every waking hour on my ps3? I already have bioshock2, dirt3, virtua tennis 4, tiger woods the masters, dead space 2, ds extraction, magic the gathering. It’s just insane!
