Xbox 360 Minecraft: Not A Port, Saves Kittens

Markus ‘Notch’ Persson, head of Mojang and creator of Minecraft, has said a few words regarding the Xbox 360 version. Don’t expect anything exciting though, “There are “PR Guidelines” I’m supposed to follow. Until I know what that is (and why I agreed to it), I can’t say much at all,” he said.

What Markus can reveal is that he is the game designer for the 360 version but there is a new team handling the programming. The mystery team have ‘done several console games before’ and the console version will not be a straight port. Notch also commented on the inclusion of Kinect:

You will be able to play it without Kinect BUT WITH THE POWER OF KINECT YOU WILL FEEL CLOSER TO YOUR GAME THAN EVAR BEFORE AND ALSO IT SAVES KITTENS

A previously unseen feature of Kinect, the ‘Kitteh Kapture’ subroutine autmatically monitors exactly just how much of a numpty you look using Kinect and if the required level of embarrassment is reached, a top secret robot (based in Mexico) rescues kittens from trees without the need to call out the fire brigade.

Or possibly not.

  1. Xbox? :( I’ve been saying i want this on PS3 for several months now..

  2. PR guidelines: Oh no man, that update needs to be DLC

  3. Minecraft won’t be as nearly successful on the 360 simply due to the controls, and there won’t be any mods or texture packs.

  4. Nice, more games should save kittens. I’m still wondering if there’s a chance that this is only a timed exclusive. He’s talking about a developer team that did “console games” before, not “Xbox games”. I know it’s probably just wishful thinking, hopefully there’ll be more details soon. I’d also be interested in his answer to “and why I agreed to it”. I’d guess it’s simply “a lot of money from Microsoft”, but why would he specifically mention it in that case?

    • Its hardly exclusive, in facts it’s probably the least exclusive game ever to be called exclusive. It’s like saying Angry Birds PS Mini is exclusive..

      • Wait, you mean Angry Birds is also available on other devices?! But you’re right of course, I was just referring to console versions.

  5. Dear Notch,

Please bring this to PS3 sometime in the near future featuring cross platform play with those on computer, or I will forced to rend you asunder.

    Thankyou for your time.

    ;)
