No Vita in Europe Until 2012

If CVG and VG247 are to be believed, the PlayStation Vita won’t arrive on European store shelves until early 2012. This is what many had predicted after Jack Tretton’s hurried claims that the aim was global availability in fiscal 2011, making the handheld available before the end of March 2012.

Apparently Sony are still aiming for a pre-Christmas launch in North America and we’d be surprised to see it released later than that in Japan. So it seems that it’s only the PAL regions being allowed to slip to calendar 2012.

The projected EU price that most retailers are predicting for the purposes of securing those early pre-orders is £239/£289 or €249/€299 but so far, only the US price of $249/$299 has been confirmed.

So, who’s importing then?

  1. Damn it! I’d import but I’m buying with Gamestation credit and have been building it up purely for Vita!

  2. still think they needed to break the 200 £€$ mark to fight off the 3ds, only way ill be getting a vita is if they release ps2 classics i think, all i use my psp for now adays is front mission and final fantasy classics

  3. Sadface.

  4. Eurgh, I really hope this isn’t the case.

  5. The Euro price has been confirmed…

  6. Dammit. Least Sonic Generations will keep me busy.

  7. is anybody surprised?
sony were the only console manufacturer to not do a near simultaneous worldwide release of their latest machines.
that includes nintendo with the 3ds.

at least they haven’t bleated out some weak, obviously made up excuse this time.
    at least not yet.

seriously, in what bizzaro world management school did the sony execs learn that it was a good idea to treat your best market like an afterthought?

it’s bloody idiotic it really is.

    • Do you take a day off from being pure evil? :)

  8. Not that I’m surprised but it’s a stupid decision, considering Europe seems to be the PS brands biggest market outside of Japan I can’t believe how Sony off the EU market such slipshoddy service. Inferior PSN content, inferior (supposed) prices and late release dates. I understand that JP will be first as it’s home terrirory and they need to make special effort in the 360 strong US, but you thing they would give their biggest impartial client group a bit more than they are currently doing. But then I suppose we’re to blame, we stand for it.

    • actually europe is sony’s biggest market, including japan, in fact the uk, just the uk mind, not all of europe, replaced japan as the second biggest market for games for a while last year.

nearly half of all ps3 sold were sold in europe.

for a huge multinational corporation operating in the 21st century, sony have a very anachronistically provincial attitude.

most bog companies are focused on globalisation, but sony seem focused, on regionalisation, chopping the world up into tiny little chunks and giving each bit to a different department, that in itself is not the problem, the problem is they seem to make it impossible for the departments to communicate with each other, and give little to no support to other regions than japan and the us.

  9. Pretty crap timing really and the more that I see of the Vita price tag and rumours of the PS3 dropping to below the 200 mark, it’s starting to put me off a bit to be honest…March madness!!!

  10. When will these games companies learn from the (very successful) Apple model: Announce a product when it’s ready and make it available NOW not 1 year later.
