Sledgehammer Games’ Glen Schofield has spoken out on the difference between Modern Warfare 3 and the competition, or, rather, it appears, the Frostbite 2 engine used in EA’s Battlefield 3.
Speaking to AusGamers, Schofield said “I’ve seen that trick [with reference to naming engines] and the bottom line is, [Modern Warfare 3] will run at 60 frames a second. Not sure any of our competitors will. You don’t ship an engine, you ship a game.”
“Not sure I’ve seen any of our competitors on the console especially running at 60 frames a second and I’d be a little scared at this point – in June – if I was looking forward to a particular game that wasn’t on the console and running at 60,” Schofield added.
“And I think 60 is our competitive edge and you just don’t throw that away.”
Do you agree? Sure, nice smooth action is always welcome but developers often compromise in other areas to achieve that hallowed frame rate. The battle for this year’s big FPS is just warming up…

If Battlefield 3 has multiplayer anywhere near the quality of BF2 the COD series should be ****ing themselves in my opinion. I’m not saying I didn’t have fun playing MW2 online but if MW3 is the same gameplay over and over again then it’s not going to win outright like they are hyping it up to. However the COD series is always going to sell well because it hits the hearts of so many people (plenty underage).

Well Glen Schofield has done an excellent marketing job here. With just a few lines he’s whipped up a storm about their upcoming game. Pay rise for Glen!

People that want Battlefield 3 are going to buy Battlefield 3 (Even a PC friend of mine having seen the PS3 ver.is going to buy a PS3 just for this, rather than upgrade his rig).
People that want to buy MW3 are going to bu…..well you get the idea.
Lot of my friends are FPS nuts, play seemingly very little but BF:BC2 or MW2/Black Op’s.This P.R War Of Words? completly lost on them. They would’nt know a frame rate from the plumage of a great crested gwark and be about as interested.
They know which series delivers what they want and which is getting their cash.Hell, lot of the original Black op’s whiners now play nowt but….as everyone on their friends list plays nothing but..

Honestly, I don’t like it when the framerate is too smooth (60FPS). It makes it look like it is homemade footage, for some reason, and it makes me a little bit sick.
I love it when the framerate is locked at 25, or 30.

I agree, 60fps makes it look fake, like when you turn on all the digital enhancements on a good LCD TV and watch a Channel 5 film.
I would like DICE to lock their framerate at 30 though, I’ve had a few shots go skewiff during some more destructively explosive moments. Destructively explosive moments, I might add, that aren’t available on COD.

Never been a big fan of CoD because of the dull WWII setting. When I heared of a modern CoD game I was really hyped because back then it looked pretty good but I was sorely disappointed by the overwhelming amount of scripted scenes and enemies spawning behind rocks and what not. I actually didn’t know that the game runs at 60 fps but obviously it didn’t change anything about how I do not enjoy playing the game.
I think it is kind of sad that they have to bet on the game running at 60 fps because they know everyone is moaning about the outdated graphical nature of their engine.
If I had to choose between two games that I do not enjoy playing I would always go for the better looking one, even if it only runs at 30 fps.

Isn’t there a ARMA 3? that gonna be better right?

I don’t really care about the fps as long as the game is fun like Bad Company 2 has been and i bet Battlefield 3 will be i like it the vehicles and destructible stuff is nice and i’d rather take those than higher fps but each of their own i guess but the part i find most amusing with these is that people who say they won’t buy a CoD game like the new MW3 they will still buy it i won’t i wan’t Battlefield 3 i’m not the biggest online gamer or a FPS gamer but i really liked Bad Company 2 it’s fun for the reasons i said earlier

Thats is all.

Sure 60fps is better than 30 in games, Gamers tell CoD devs all the time what they need to do to up its game, and they won’t pay for it.
Dedicated Servers.
‘You don’t ship an engine, you ship a game.’ Thats a god one Sledgehammer, almost as fun as the David Haye s Wlad klitschko press conferences.

Hopefully they manage to get it running solidly at that on the PS3 this time.

This sounds like a developer trying to convince themselves and their fans that they’re still relevant; all this needs is for the BF3 devs to throw in a 60fps lower-detail wrapper mode and to give people the option to use it during online play. My money is still on the next CS:S coming to consoles though; all Valve need to do is bring the custom map aspect from the PC version across and they’ll be laughing, and that’s before even thinking about it possibly being F2P.
