Japanese publisher Namco Bandai has recently set up a blog dedicated to it’s upcoming project, Digimon World Re:Digitize. The development team working behind the game has yet to be revealed, but we do know that Re:Digitize will release exclusively for the PlayStation Portable and will be closely linked with the 1999 PSX title, Digimon World.
Since the franchise’s first major gaming debut, Digimon games became increasingly sporadic, spawning numerous JRPG titles and even a spin-off fighting series. Realising the immense popularity of Digimon World, Namco Bandai has said that Re:Digitize will borrow numerous elements and mechanics which made the game such a hit.
To recap, Digimon World was non-linear action RPG which also featured tamagotchi-inspired mechanics, reminding players to feed and rest their companion as well as take loo breaks (only now do I feel guilty for letting my Agumon soil himself to death.) The game also featured unconventional methods of progression, forcing players to manually train their Digimon at dojos as opposed to simply levelling up in combat. It will be interesting to see how the developer propose to modernise the original formula.

I fucking loved Digimon World when I was younger. That was amazing. There was this king turd Digimon and you could get a mini turd that ate turds.

I do believe you can see one of those turds cruising around town in that first picture. That was something that used to frustrate me about the game; the damn things needed to take a dump every 5 minutes or so!

I preferred Digimon World 4 to all the rest but like all the Digimon World games, Digimon World 1 was entirely different to the rest. I’ll insist on my PSP owning friend to buy this :)

Wow. Never thought I’d see this, yes please! Digimon World original was brilliant, the only other one I had the chance to play was DW 2003 which was “alright”…
But I’d love it if this DW iteration if based on the Digimon Adventure series (seasons 1-2) instead of the later ones.
