Sony are dishing out PS Vita development kits to indie studios, it appears.
The news comes from Rubicon, who say SCEE loaned them four such kits (we’ve seen one first hand, it looks like a PSP go) so they can build an “upgraded” version of Great Little War Game, one of the best iPhone games around just now.
Rubicon’s technical director, Steven Haggerty, was understandably impressed by Sony, saying that the manufacturer is “the best of all” with regards to indie developers.
“We’ve worked with Apple, and you can’t get anything out of them,” he said to Develop. “Microsoft rarely responds and I suppose Nintendo are okay, but Sony are always there to help. They always get back to you.”
Sony has yet to officially outline its stance on dishing out Vita kits, but this is certainly an encouraging start.

Good to hear that Sony still has their finger on the pulse in some respects.

Good news to hear.

Hope they manage to do this quite a lot then hopefuly we will end up with lots of gems from indies for the Vita.

Good job Sony, it’s stuff like this that makes me proud to have a PS3 :)

Good news. Next we need a store for such apps. I think putting them in the store with minis will confuse the idea.

Probably not the type of game that i would buy a Vita for but it’s good to see Sony supporting the indies.

Wow, the PS Vita is really coming into a league of it’s own. :)
A big well done to Sony! I can honestly say that gaming would NOT be the same without them, and I’d probably give up my hobby if it wasn’t for Sony.

Getting close now :-)

Like a PSPgo? Looks like a device i’d rather have instead of the commercial Vita then. :(

That’s great of Sony, I wonder if they fancy lending me a full Vita when it comes out…Hmm…Doubt it.
