Commo Rose Returns To Battlefield 3

[drop2]The Commo rose, the circular communication selector from Battlefield 2 and 2142, will return in the upcoming first person shooter Battlefield 3.

The device enables quick messages to other players, and is much faster than the old method of pointing and spotting.  It’s most useful for those without headsets and enables communication for all.  It’s an abbreviation of Communication Rose.

It’s not, as our friends at Eurogamer pointed out this afternoon, a Camaro.  “Vintage Chevrolet sports cars used as special forces cars,” wrote the site erroneously. We’re guessing the Eurogamer guys have been skipping sleep over there in Germany…

The Commo rose will be in from the start, and not via DLC down the line.

  1. I read that as ‘comatose’ first :|
Never had a chance to try this, looks good though!

  2. Absolutely hilarious.

What’s even funnier is that other sites have used the EG article as a source… http://www.videogamer.com/pc/battlefield_3/news/battlefield_3_on_pc_to_include_camaros.html

Did someone mention shoddy journalism? :P

    • And the feature is cool too ;)

    • and they don’t source Eurogamer, despite clearly having been reworked from the EG post? Bizarre.
It’s really, really funny but I’m sure everyone is very tired and possibly a little worse for wear with drink…
Still, quick comms should make the headset-less a little easier to play with in multiplayer, right?

      • Yeah, I noticed that. A but crap on their part. Also goes to show how important it is to check your sources.

Reminds me of the thing TSA did with the song packs in the Playstation Store updates to catch out those who copied them yet didn’t credit TSA. Funny stuff.

    • Noticed they never put a ‘via’ in for EG. tut tut

Been laughing at Camaros for ages, once I realised it wasn’t actually Camaros

    • Unfortunately it’s not the first time EG journos talk out of their ass, and it won’t be the last.

  3. Whilst I am laughing, I’m also utterly shagged out from posting trailers so Eurogamer have my sympathies.

  4. Is this only for PC?

    I ask as the Wiki you link to mentions specific keyboard keys to bring it up in Battlefield 2 & 2142 & at the bottom of the page states;

“The Commo Rose has been confirmed to return to Battlefield 3 on the PC.”

    • Yeah, I’d imagine it’s only for PCs.

      • on bf3 forums thats all the PC players go on about, so I think this is probably correct, wouldn’t mind a confirmation though.

    • I reckon this will be for the PC version but id certainly welcome it on its little console versions .

    • They’ve said that it’s confirmed for PC only. But have not specifically ruled out it being on consoles.

I’d put a fair sized bet that it won’t appear on consoles though unless there’s enough of a fuss kicked up.

    • from the looks of it it looks like it’d be ideal for consoles as well, hold a button and point one of the sticks at the option you want.
just like the weapon selection wheels many other console games have.

  5. Haha superb slip-up!

  6. That’s brillant comedy gold there!

  7. This is just for PC though isn’t it?

  8. Dear Dice,
Please set the default option for VO Language to Localised, not Original like it is in BC2. It’s all very well having authentic Russian voices, but when the vast majority of players are noobs who don’t know how to toggle the setting it means I can run after them yelling for ammo until I get shot in the face (for running like a loon in the open) and they’ll never realise what I want, as all they hear is “дайте мне боеприпасы”

    Thanks,
    Clipless gamer

    • Lol running like a loon in the open :D

    • Hi – Noob checking in for duty.

I had no idea there was any way to change the voiceovers.

      • Yeah – it’s not the players fault here, just an incredibly dumb design decision. There was a youtube video when the game first came out that gave some very good basic advice (mostly told you to do your job and spot a lot), I think it had this in it. I’m sure I never twigged on my own to put it to localised, someone had to tell me.

    • Kudos for looking up the Russian for “Give me ammo!”

      *virtual hat-tip*

      • yea , i thought he’d just written some random nonsense !

    • ha ha good point , so many times ive been chasing a tank with a spanner only to be taken out or even reversed on !

    • But quite often players also don’t react to requests when you’re on the American team, unless you stand right in front of them. Many seem to think that “I need ammo!” is just some ambient dialogue to add to the battlefield atmoshpere and don’t know that it comes from a teammate.

      • Sadly all too true. But you can rightly rage at them :P

  9. This is excellent news; the do-all Q button is a confusing mess without commo-rose.

Now we just need to eliminate q-spamming 3D spotting. I’ve no problem with the spotting if it needs to be used via Q and then clicked on the rose, but the Q-spamming spotting method needs to go….. and I’m sure it’ll work out ;)

  10. I’m more disappointed it actually isn’t the car. *sigh*
