Music from video games as wide ranging as Angry Birds to Call Of Duty has featured in a special concert by the London Philharmonic Orchestra, as part of the Vision Sound Music festival.
The proceedings were brought together by composer Andrew Skeet who said “We’ve got to go a little bit on the nostalgia front but also find the best bits of music. The slightly darker ones like Advent Rising, it’s quite romantic but dark romantic, so I like that. I love the ones to work on that are a bit different to the originals because they’re a bit more fun. But then I loved doing Tetris and Angry Birds because they’re completely new versions and a little bit tongue-in-cheek.”

I think the one group of people that have benefited the most from gaming in the last 7 years is the music industry, like the London Philharmonic. The quality of in game music has rose so greatly that it’s becoming a sub-culture of its own, and orchestra groups are finding a new younger audience and shedding the reputations that orchestra music is only for the high society types. For any fan of music and games these live performances are simply amazing and I highly recommend going. Theres just something about hearing it live that makes the songs feel so… I guess the word I’ll use is… pure.

Agreed dude, I have the OST’s of around 10-12 games on my HTC Desire HD (had an iPod touch but my sister has it now), and I love sticking the music on and listening to it as I play other games. In fact, I downloaded the Deus Ex: Human Revolution OST tonight, some awesome music from that game right there.

Deus Ex: HR is awesome, I listened to the music at the title screen for about 30 mins before I started the game. And then while playing and listening to the in game music, I find easter eggs with the music from the original DX. Brilliantly scored game.

That’s pretty cool, there’s a few on that list I would love to hear – might search YouTube over the weekend.

I would love to go to one of these concerts, but due to where I live the chance of me getting to one in the near future is pretty slim.
Going to one of the Final Fantasy set of concerts would be sublime.

Where is Shadow of the Collossus?
BIGAL-1992
I don’t think you could really do Shadow of the Collossus justice by giving it only one section of a set-list. Frankly, the game deserves a concert entirely devoted to it.

I agree, and would definitely go and see that. Also an art exhibition – that would be great too

That looks awesome.
I wonder how to convince my band’s conductor to do some video games…
Bladesteel
Get hold of the music on cd. Play it for him. Don’t mention that it’s from games. The decision should be made based on the quality of the music alone.
Sympozium
So is gonna be released as a album? if so when?
Origami Killer
Just saw this on bbc news, must have overlooked it on TSA. Would love to hear these being played. The Uncharted soundtrack is fantastic, I always find myself humming alone to it.
