Battlefield 3 Comes On Two Disks

Remember when Amiga games came on seven disks?  Remember when you had to turn the tape over on the Speccy half way through a game?  Well, EA’s upcoming Battlefield 3 might well rekindle some of those long-forgotten memories – at least on Xbox 360.

Yep – it looks like the 360 version will span two disks, suggesting that DICE feel that the limited space on a DVD was simply too small for their game.  It’s not clear whether or not this is going to be split between the campaign and multiplayer but EA have done this before – with Dead Space 2 – and it wasn’t an issue then despite splitting the story mode into two.

And indeed Forza 3 handled a similar situation neatly by installing the second disk before you starter.

The news comes from a Japanese poster, and whilst looks convincing enough we’re waiting on EA or DICE to confirm either way.  To be honest, we’re more interesting in actually seeing the 360 version running than how many disks it takes up – surely that’s the key here?

  1. This might suggest hi res textures, which may bode well for the console versions.

  2. its these things that make me glad I got a ps3 :)

    • +1 on that, I think that this is why we will see a new x-box way before another playstation, god bless blu-rays.

  3. It pisses me off enough having to change discs when I want to play a different game!

    • Lol, true. It’s great when I want to play a different game and realise it’s a PSN game installed on the HDD…trouble is I’ve already got up out of my seat, such a waste!

  4. Not a big issue imo…my PS3 will be seeing BF3 though.

  5. Balls. I was planning on buying BF3 for the 360 because I’ve got more mates who’ll be playing it on there. I hate changing discs…

  6. Isn’t Skyrim on one disc? If so, I am dissapointed in EA and/ or DICE.

    • If, (and this IS an if) Skyrim can fit on one disc, and DICE can’t fit Battlefield 3 on one, questions should rightly be asked why.
