Battlefield 3 Comes On Two Disks

Remember when Amiga games came on seven disks?  Remember when you had to turn the tape over on the Speccy half way through a game?  Well, EA’s upcoming Battlefield 3 might well rekindle some of those long-forgotten memories – at least on Xbox 360.

Yep – it looks like the 360 version will span two disks, suggesting that DICE feel that the limited space on a DVD was simply too small for their game.  It’s not clear whether or not this is going to be split between the campaign and multiplayer but EA have done this before – with Dead Space 2 – and it wasn’t an issue then despite splitting the story mode into two.

And indeed Forza 3 handled a similar situation neatly by installing the second disk before you starter.

The news comes from a Japanese poster, and whilst looks convincing enough we’re waiting on EA or DICE to confirm either way.  To be honest, we’re more interesting in actually seeing the 360 version running than how many disks it takes up – surely that’s the key here?

  1. Of course I remember the disk swapping days of the Amiga, my A600 still demands it!

  2. Can you use them as a weapon?

  3. I love my Amiga (still in the loft)…Chaos Engine, Cannon Fodder, Sensible World of Soccer. The good old days.

Not surprising it’s on 2 discs….looking forward to seeing more console footage.

    • Sensible World of Soccer, still my favourite footie game of all time.

The hours I lost playing that and Championship Manager….

      • What about when you completed a season…you had to bugger off for like 3 hours so the game could cycle through all the leagues in the world!! :(

Probably showing my age now but Gheorghe Hagi and Hristo Stoichkov were amazing in that game!!

      • Just like they where in real life , what teams those two countries had . Bulgaria ’94 would have taken England to the cleaners last Saturday.

      • For sure

    • Cannon Fodder is AMAZING!!

      • There was a PSP version coming out but it got canned I think

      • Agreed Canon Fodder is awesome stuff

      • that sucks, maybe a version for the Vita? now that WOULD be Awesome!!

      • Would suit the Vita touch screen and physical controls quite nicely imo.

    • LOL i used to play speedball 2, mega lo mania and turrican to death on amiga

      • Speedball was ace!

      • I have SB2 on my iPad but it isn’t quite the same as playing it with a zip stick on a real Amiga.

      • Icecream…! Icecream…!

  4. “but EA have done this before – with Dead Space 2 – and it wasn’t an issue then despite splitting the story mode into two.” actually it was more of a god-send than anything else as it gave you an additional save during your hardcore run ;)

    • Especially that extra save during hardcore with the disc change. You attempted it again yet? :)

      • I had another attempt and certainly got further but I got a bit greedy and tried to make it to chapter 7 before saving… bad move :'( I’m determined to complete it before the end of the year lol!

      • Shame. Seeing as you have the 7th chapter save….save at the end of chapter 4 maybe. Mind you, if you did save first at 7 the second half of the game would be much less stressful!

    • I was going to make that comment below, I asked my friends (who own an xbox) how they found the two disks, they said it was better than one as they could have that extra save coming into disc two.

  5. Didn’t Final Fantasy 13 also come on two discs for the xbox 360?

    • yes. Yes it did.

    • I thought it was three! :-/ Do you reckon Microsoft will create a new disc medium for their next console or just stick to multiple discs? Because it seems to be a regular thing happening now.

      • Or just use Blu ray?

      • Yeah I think they will have to go blu ray. Surely it would diminish the value of the xbox, still not having the ability to play them in the next gen. Making a new format surely is a bit unneccessary.

    • 3 discs.

  6. I’m not really suprised. I wonder if one disc is for the Single Player and the other one is for the Mutliplayer?

  7. Don’t really see it as an issue really as long as they split it up right.

  8. I LOVE BLU-RAY! ! ! :P

    For Games & Movies(+Star wars Blu-ray out next week! ! ! O!M!G! ! !) LoL

+ I wish someone would do all those brilliant ‘Bitmap Brothers’ games that where on the Amiga for PSN(GODS was AMAZING) :P

    • i second the love of blu ray :)

      • Totally love blu ray too.

      • Me too, not falling for the Star Wars stuff though. Don’t get it, wont be true HD!!

    • George Lucas can take his Revenge of the Sith “Nnnnoooooooooo!!!” and stick it [censored]!
I’ll stick with the DVDs thanks.
I wasn’t ever really too bothered with any of the previous changes to the movies, but this is just a pisstake.

  9. That means 360 buyers will have to use 12GB on their HDD unless they want to listen to the loud DVD drive spinning and vibrating the table.

Oh PS3 and your blu ray xD

  10. I still remember Lost Oddyssy (sp) – 4 disk on 360 great game that was.
message my mates the heads on this and the response was oh c’mon I can’t be a***** to swap disc during the game -_- lol
    Ah well…..
