EA has responded to Michael Pachter’s prediction that a premium version of Battlefield 3’s Battlelog will be introduced in the future, to rival CoD Elite.
“We are providing Battlelog to Battlefield 3 players to deliver the best social, multiplayer FPS experience in the market. We have no plans to charge for this service with Battlefield 3.
The Battlefield series has always been about playing with friends, and Battlelog takes that experience to the next level by serving as a unique social network.”
Of course, things can change over the course of time, but for now it seems that Battlelog will remain a free feature.

I can see opportunities for amusing poo-based gaming statues. So far we have the solid, chunky, renault 5 themed Autolog. Then a bandanna wearing, 50cal toting Battlelog. Maybe next year when SSX is out we will have the gargantuan, expensive to post Mountainlog (the special edition would be sprinkled with snow that comments on your morning movements like DJ Atomica).

I assume the main part of Battlelog will remain free, but EA will eventually introduce a premium service like COD Elite or PS+. Either that or they’ve realised they make emough just from the online pass.

That was my thought as well. They also only mention Battlefield 3, so depending on how well CoD Elite does, we could well see a similar addition to the next Battlefield.

Whether a new services comes along as soon as Bf reaches massive recurring sales over a number if years us a different matter.

if they do charge it won’t be for stat tracking. most likely it will be free dlc like the cod elite and the stat tracking will be free.

If its like just an premium service like PS+ and other things, then I don’t see this as a problem if ever did that.

I hate that all these companies assume we want to tell all our friends how many people we shot on tuesday, I don’t, my friends don’t play video games, and if they did, I really don’t think they’d care. Leave facebook to facebook and games to games. Since I don’t even want this when free, I really don’t want anyone to have to pay for it, so it is good that it’s free.

Nobody is forcing you to use it. This is all part of innovation, and keeping the game fresh for people that like the feature. I’m not too big into the social networking, but I think the people that are, will love it.

Yeah I agree, although I dislike the whole social network thing… I wouldn’t like to see stats from a game.

I think the stats thing is probably due to the number of people that used the likes of http://bf2s.com/ on other BF games so seems logical that EA though they would get involved. I personally couldn’t care but if it’s free i’ll have it lol
