Vita Getting an External Battery Option

Are you concerned over the Vita’s 3-5 hour battery life? Well, Sony has some good news for you in the form of an external battery attachment.

SCEA Worldwide Studios president, Shuhei Yoshida, had the following to say:

“If you’re flying from New York to San Francisco or vice versa, you’ll have no concerns if you have the additional external battery.”

Good news for those who partake in long trips!

  1. I’m not really bothered about the battery life to begin with, I’m far more concerned with battery longevity.

My launch PSP, while lasting a good two years, became useless when the battery wouldn’t last 2 episodes of Futurama, let alone a game.

So I will wait until there’s a model with replaceable battery option.

    • I agree. With my iPhone I only ever charge the battery when it’s below 10% or completely dead, and after 18 months it’s not very good. Not too bad if you could change the battery for a new one

  2. Well that’s nothing new devices always have extra things and if somebody hasn’t noticed yet batteries always suck. It would be nice to have a battery that would last around a month without a recharge at full use but sadly it hasn’t been invented yet so we have to use what we have

  3. never had to sit on the loo longer than 3 hours so it not an issue for me.

  4. Im not particularly bothered by this really. If im on a long haul flight then chances are they have plug points under the seat or something too anyway. And plus, we’ve all seen this before, hell even MS did it with the 360 giving no battery packs with controllers so tbh i cant blame sony going down this route.

  5. I wonder what it will look like? I hope it doesn’t look like it’s trying to have it’s way with the vita.

I hope the external battery will be either the same amount of time that the vita one lasts for or longer as it would be annoying as hell to find out that the external one will only work for an hour when you need it the most.

  6. More reasons not to buy the vita on release and let third party groups get to grips with the hardware. How long you all reckon it will take for an alternative battery adapter to get on the market.
